As far as I know auto dmg is not nerfed, and since mages have poop auto and could only rely on skills they suffer in pvp, since most other classes (druid is a bit controversial) could do very decent auto dmg. Especially all you have to do is beef up some resis and mages can't do good dmg.

I saw some ppl on youtube using HW build.

So far the suggestion was 100 dex, that gives you 200 def by default, which should dodge most autos if you have maxed HW

If you want to do some auto dmg, you can try the offhand axe too, though I don't see a lot of druids with it.
