Unfortunate Scamming Incidents

#1
I have always been of the opinion that players control what they trade and how they trade, and being scammed is a result of poor decision making and cognitive reasoning. That said, there have been quite a number of scamming incidents over the last few nights most concerning the player "GoonDruid," but others from other Ayothaya clan members.

When it's all said and done, most people are smart about how they trade and who they trade with. But if you are offer'd anything from this player or this clan, please don't take the bait. Again, it's all about being smart and being responsible, but when it's all said and done numerous long standing players have had their nights ruined over the last few days, and it's just such a sad thing to see.

This is simply a post to spread information, please share it with people in your clans.

All the best,

Tea

Gah I already commented on this post once but my phone died and I guess it didn't add it so im going to try to recreate the wonderful piece of art that was my last comment that none will ever get to see I believe it went something like this...

I'm confused.i dont understand how pll are getting scammed.maybe its my inner noob but I don't see it.i personally don't trade with anyone I dont know but besides that when you open up trade window with someone doesn't it show you the item your getting and you both have to press the trade checkmark before the transaction goes through? I'm not trying to make a joke I really don't know how ppl are getting scammed.will someone please explain this to me.

GoonDruid takes a very expensive highly coveted item, like some Crown Shield of Spirits, and offers to give it to a player of an exchange of some of the gear they are wearing...usually their ammy or their offhand, or both. He/she obviously cases the person examines gear and makes them a sweet deal based in the value of the shield.

Then while the trade is being set up, it is possible to quickly remove the item and click yes so fast to at times register due to lag or due to just game delay. Thus you check yer inventory after trade and you have no shield and GoonDruid has all your collateral. You literally just transfer'd it away. Then when asked or confronted, GoonDruid claims to have lost connection or to have lagged out and he doesn't have your items...it's all some big misunderstanding...etc etc etc

Thus the scam.

It's unfortunate, and the admin is putting some trade safeguards in next update to prevent this type of scam, but until the update goes live, this is how it's done.

goon is a obvious alt. ive actually seen him with a serenity player more than once and and yesterday after he conned dylanpalmer i was running through shale and he was with this same player again. Im not sure of the players name but it was a mage of lower level like 40 or so I believe it was but honestly it was late so I didnt think to check name. Im not saying these players are one and the same heck for all I know maybe hes trying to scam that player also BUT ive seen them together more than once often in areas like greygorge by each other which to me means a convo or some type of trade since thats what i often do with my own alts.

I'll add him to black list strange though the other night he said he was joining celticreign and payed me 5k to power level him

2 days ago he asked to join CelticReign, and I told him that we had just merged and needed time to meld as a group before we took on new members. He asked if I had any issue with him joining another clan in the interim, and I told him I didn't. And that if he liked that clan, then it was also all good.

Then Shanked reported to me he had been scammed, and I talked to Goon and he claimed he disconnected. And then DylanPalmer was scammed, and then Speedwerks, and then harbinger, and then another and another. And yeah, this player will never be a part of our crew because of this.

I spoke with the Admin, on other worlds GoonDruid has been scamming under the name GoonArcher, just do a search for GoonArcher and you will see it blow up. I initially was impressed by this player and considered them for recruitment, but um obviously no longer.

Numerous times he talked up CelticReign as "the new serenity" which I told him wasn't our aim etc, we just were looking for our own style of fun..but it makes me think that he obviously has some server background. Probably either a former Arawn player from months ago or a Arawn player now gone rogue. That said, I don't at all think it's a member of another big name clan, bada, serenity, Uskoci or CelticReign just makes me wonder how an alt with such good gear, knows so much about server stuff. oh well..

Yeah GoonArcher was in Arawn and hacked the system to get millions of gold. Sounds like the same guy pulling another scam.

There is an easy way to avoid this scam . Bascially when I trade, I put my money in and wait for the guy to click the trade box first. Then I wait a bit and click the trade box. If the person wont do this then the trade is over and I pull out. I particualary do this with people I don't know.

Would it be possible to make it a three person trade if someone feels unsafe about trade? During the trade, someone could be invited to spectate, while being invisible to the other person. I've never seen it done, but that's how I would solve this problem.
