Hippocrates or Hypocrite?

I should start by stating that I do not believe a prerequisite for posting on a particular server forum, should ever include the poster having had to have played upon that world themselves. If I did, then that would surely make a hypocrite of myself. To that end I would defend anyone's right to post and express their opinions hitherto, and so long as it is within the confines of what is both legally permissible and morally acceptable.
With that said, it can also be quite beneficial at times to ensure such opinions are as unbiased and informed as possible, before presuming to pronounce judgement upon something that one would have little first hand knowledge of.
I find it particularly ironic when someone decries Danu for her volatile nature and drama, when it is their own attraction and longing for these things that has drawn them into her chambers (or rather forum) in the first place... Particularly when a poster's only contributions are provocative and inflammatory, further emphasising an underlying hypocrisy or contradiction of terms.
It is true that Danu runs as hot at times as she burns bright, but it makes little sense to criticise the moths whilst reaching for that same flame yourself.
Contrary to popular perception, I have found Danu a fine (if somewhat fickle) mistress during my time playing here. Sometimes kind and gentle, other times tempestuous or yet cold and calculating.
Whether fair, fiery or cold, however, she is always interesting.
No world is wholly good or wholly bad, and the very notion of what is good and bad (as with many things, such as beauty) are entirely subjective and relative anyway, as I have said many times in the past. It is also true that not every resident of a server will conform to the stereotypes assigned to them. For this reason it is wrong to make sweeping judgements about a populace, or tar people with the same brush... A basic model which can be applied to society in general.
I can say that I have heard tell of more 'civilised' worlds, almost free of all but the most trivial forms of conflict... In some ways almost the polar opposite of Danu. Such worlds where cooperation is held in favour of competition. Yet even these worlds would seemingly have almost as many detractors as plaudits... It all comes down to preference.
Personally I think such servers should be applauded for what they have achieved, and long may they continue as a shining beacon for all that they would stand for. Indeed, on a personal level, I should think my own ideology to be far more in-keeping with these other servers, if truth be told, yet still I have no want for pastures new which must say something, if not speak volumes (either about myself, or the server in general).
Sometimes the most compelling stories are those that have a villain, in the same way as a soap opera will often do well to employ some element of drama in their scripts, and Danu has these in abundance (even as it has a share of wise and honourable folk as well). It is one of the very reasons why it's forum is a draw for many eyes besides it's own.
At the end of the day, the coding of the game has the same effect regardless of which server a person plays on, yet it is the people of each server that transform the game and add variety. It is simply a question of choice, and that can only be a good thing. So let us celebrate each servers diversity and unique identity, and enjoy the fact that we have such wealth of options when it comes to deciding which world would suit us best.
Certainly I'm not suggesting that Danu is without her problems. Neither am I saying that we shouldn't all strive to make it a better place. I simply think that constructive advice and criticism (including outside sources) is preferable to the unsolicited slights of those with disingenuous and hypocritical intent.
The reason for my writing is that even a simple trading post has been hijacked recently (not the first occasion where something similar has happened) as someone from another server deemed to feign their disapproval of the state of Danu, whilst harbouring the true intent of adding to her toils. Not wishing to derail that thread any further, I simply thought to post here instead.
If a persons real objective is to ail the ills of thing, and not ail the thing itself, then it is not for naught that a healer does observe a hippocratic oath... 'With regard to healing the sick, I will devise and order for them the best diet, according to my judgment and means; and I will take care that they suffer no hurt or damage'... 'Whatsoever house I may enter, my visit shall be for the convenience and advantage of the patient; and I will willingly refrain from doing any injury or wrong from falsehood'.
Consider the term 'house' in this instance, as being equatable with the word 'forum', and I don't think one can go too far wrong.
Kind regards
