I can think of few things lower than scamming a clan-mate. And, yesterday a high-ranking and well-known player tried to scam my Heroic Gloves. I lent them to him at the start of a boss fight. Afterwards he ran off, tried to say that I never lent them, then tried to say that while I did lend then, he gave them back... He thought that nobody would believe my word (110, druid) over his (150ish, rogue?). Luckily, I had a good witness and better screen grabs. When confronted, he left the clan and it took a couple hours and the efforts of more than a couple well-respected players to get my gloves back.
Reputation is everything in this game, and trust is integral to any high-level clan. This person destroyed his reputation with one stupid mistake, and as things stand I can't imagine any worthwhile clan offering him membership.
This does not sit right with me because I think this person is more young and stupid than malicious. I don't want him to stop playing, but I want his rehabilitation to be just painful enough so he never considers scamming again.
Here is what I propose (and what I want your input on):
1. This person makes a very public in-game admission of guilt. Perhaps a large gathering in the Tavern.
2. This person donates 150k to a random low-level player. He gives the money to a mutually agreed-upon 3rd party (i have some ideas who) and that person is in charge of dispersing funds.
I don't think he should have to earn his trust back and #2 could be a bad idea. That "random low-level player" could end up scamming even more with his 150k.
