plug it in while you play

Just a warning about this for iPhone ppl... If you play plugged in, there is a chance that you will fry your phone's wifi. Just sayin' from 4S experience.

If you play while plugged in your phone can get warm. The bit that gets warm is near the chip that controls your wifi. If your phone is one that gets really warm when playing plugged in, it might get hot enough to kill the chip.

If the chip dies, you won't be able to get wifi on your phone. In fact the wifi on/off slider button will be greyed out (no ability to turn it on Or off at all).

People have put a bunch of solutions to the wifi grey button thing - everything from pointing a hair dryer at specific spots on your phone to shoving it in the fridge. Even if these work for you if you get this issue, they will be temporary and it'll all still point to one thing - your phone's wifi is dead or dying. Go to Apple.

What I'm saying is - avoid playing plugged in, coz you are running a risk. I've killed two phones like that before I figured it (yes, both refurbs, so might not have been as robust as a new one). My original phone backlight died for a diff reason.

So just passing info on. If you play plugged in, at least with a 4 or 4S, you run the wifi fry risk.

If you have a refurbished model then yes that is more likely, I have one of the original iPhone 4's and it has gotten so hot it has actually burned my hands. Yet the wifi still works perfectly fine (besides the glitch where I lose connection if I hold it a specific way)

Intresting thnks for telling i never knew this could happen and burned ur hand i can say i never dealt with that lol but i will now try and keep my itouch off the charger as much as possible

Charging it is fine, it is when you play it while it is on the charger that it will overheat ..

My phones always pluged in. I am the only person with a corded cell phone:) The 4 and 4s have multiple issues, apple all but admitted these phones sucked. I play on a 5, my old 3Gs and a 4th gen ipod and have no real issues and they are constantly plugged in. Btw, i had a 4 and a 4s for about a week each and ditched them for my old 3Gs, that little phone is the best ive ever owned.

Yeah, I put my 3GS thru total hell and its still going. Could probably pour petrol over it, Sellotape it to a grenade, and drop it off the Eiffal Tower and it'd still go! The 4S has pretty much ended any desire I had to keep up with Apple.

Ah, I have only had the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 3, the 4 isn't all that bad imo, but I never had a 3s (I have used a few and it seemed good) I heard that Apple was planning on launching an update basically cutting off any device under 4g access to the new apps (idk if this is true)

I think I caught the update right as it came out with this post hehehehe
