Damage type question

#1
Does CH follow the basic AD&D rule set when it comes to dmg type vs X?
Example, trolls, certain UD mobs, wolves(winter), etc., are weak to fire. Or, is it simply fire damage does X% of dmg to all regardless of type?
I keep hearing that the damage types do a set damage ratio. If this is so, why bother with different damage types? It seems to defeat the purpose of having different dmg's and even different creature types. I've been gaming a long time, this would be my first XP with a game making dmg/creature types void if this is the case.
Anyone know the answer? No guessing please, I'm capable of guessing. If there is a post/thread on this already I'm happy to read it myself if you know the location of said thread.

Every enemy is more resistant to certain types of damage and no-resistant to others
Obvious example:
ice golem( heat damages of course will hit harder)
Eyes are weak against magic damages
Lava golems are resistant to fire damages so lower hits than usual and weak against ice damages

Thanks for the reply Hawkye.
So it's basically the same rule set, or at least the same model as AD&D. Obvious rules apply. Certain mobs weak/strong vs X dmg type.

Again, I only asked because some nooblets keep generalizing certain dmg types and saying that they ONLY do a set amount of their listed dmg on any given mob. Sounded stupid to me, and unlikely, yet stranger things have happened I guess.

Elemental damage is not affected by strength, unlike physical damage. I can physical damage (ie. Slash) goes up depending on your str. Elemental damage will always be what it says and doesn't get affected by strength.
