Lamentations of a Part-time Player

#1
I hate to punch dead horse in the mouth here but . . .

And let me premise with the following . . .

*I understand how much people grind

*I understand how much people camp

*I understand the community rules and established policies of our server

*I understand that the main I have chosen to play (rogue) is a common choice of others

*I understand everyone has voted and had their say on DL drops and I am in no way looking to re-open a closed topic

*I am merely lamenting . . .

Here is my average day:

Morning:
Log on before work, check for DL bosses (usually none up), check for Killain (usually a lineup), get asked to help a low level with a quest (to which I usually oblige), chug a lix and level for 15 then log off and go to work.

Evening:
Put kids to bed, log on, check for DL bosses (usually none up), check for Killain (usually a lineup), check for presents, receive whispers/begging about if I have DL drops, check for event bosses, get asked to help a low level with a quest (to which I usually oblige), chug a lix or two or three and level for 30-60 min, receive whispers/begging about if I have DL drops.

Go to bed and repeat process the next day.

Because of a variety of factors, including rarity of DL bosses, many people at bosses when they spawn, and most importantly my limited playing time, I as a level 173 have two purple gems. Kinda frustrating considering how long I have been at this. The main issue I have been confronted with is that with my limited playing time, if I camp, (and I have tried this) I rarely get to see a boss, and I have wasted the 1.5-2 hours a day I have for playing sitting around waiting for eternity to come. Eternity never arrives. So, I grind, level, help people out, and watch players twenty levels lower than me beg (and camp obviously) their way into DL gear. However, even though a social game, I still refuse to beg and like to come by things honestly.

I'm not annoyed by missing all the Aggy fights, or event boss fights, or hrungir fights when I am high enough, or the dicing formats . . . I just wish I could buy my DL drops off of people and get some better armour. I would love to borrow from people, but feel in good conscience that it would take forever to repay and so I don't think that is right. I appreciate the time spent by all that get to play alot more than me and most days wish I could log on a bit more, but life is life, and mine is busy.

It's kinda like a glass ceiling. I hate this quest line. As such I most likely won't be playing my main that much anymore. At least until I see a viable opportunity to advance my toon. I will still be on but will most likely be on my alts disoluteyouth, OodruidoO, and Merman.

Thanks for listening lol, and btw Lugh is the best server in this game!

You just have to wait it out, playing an alt would be a good idea.
If most of our level 170+ get dl then there wont be such a high competition and this will mean you can get your items then.
I think the current deploying of dl boss items is fair the only problem is that we have too many high levels in lugh and the boss spawn times are very long.

Hey Pinter--

I know you didn't ask for advice, so I'm giving it unsolicited. I also work and am lucky to have only an hour or two some evenings with more on weekends. My experience has been that I have to pick one: either pick up presents or grind (now on alt usually) or camp dl bosses (now just Snorri). I can't do them all.

If you're hurting for dl items, I'd suggest you find out the spawn times for one (or more) bosses that you need and just camp those. It isn't a lot of fun, but you can do other things while you're waiting (laundry works for me ;) ), and you get "camping points," by which I mean people see you camping and remember you when they have eggs/urns/what have you. Very often, the lower level items don't need to be paid back. When you get to horns and crowns, now, you'll need to put in some time to pay back, but often someone is just looking for someone to take a gem or egg off their hands.

After all, that's why we call it Camping Heroes!

What happens is that theres so few drops in a day and over time people are stuck waiting. Like yourself. Since theres like a small probability that a purple will be dropped then the chances of you rolling and winning it are slim, you will wait. Like alot of us. All the while people who are much lower level will catch up and then they will be rolling against you too. Decreasing your odds even more... Ive helped people with meteoric quest then ended up rolling drops against them a month later. I feel your pain and i know atleast in my clan, there arent alot of purples floating around. :(

for a while i only camped after i got home, maybe saw one or two snorri's. would try to grind between. As longcool suggested, i did other things while camping, watching tv, reading, eating, playing an alt, etc. that helped a bit. in the end, i basically had to log on every 90 mintues or so and camp full days before i got dl stuff at a 'reasonable pace' (a crown every 2 weeks or so).

the DL quest line is designed, rightly or wrongly, for hard core people who have the luxury of time to camp.

i would expect, as the highest levels are preoccupied with snorri and event bosses, that the spider and boggan bosses should be far easier to be a part of (and they spawn more) - that can help you get a quite a few dl pieces.
