Hermeneutic of Generosity

#1
'Hermeneutic of Generosity' - This is a term that has come up in my professional life this year - but is a concept that has worked well for me for years. Hermeneutic is basically a fancy word for interpretation. If you practice Hermeneutics of Generosity - it basically means that you assume the best in people. Don't look for reasons to criticize or find fault - but assume (at least until proven otherwise) that someones actions or feelings are justified or coming from a good place. It doesn't mean you agree or that they are 'right', just that you assume they have a good reason for their actions. Seeing things from their perspective and why they chose to do what they did. By assuming someones actions were NOT from a place of meanness, it often allows for better conversations and resolving of issues. I know full well that my propensity for seeing both sides, or choosing to believe, is often a cause of frustration for many and makes me look naive or wishy-washy, but overall it has allowed me to have a pleasant playing experience with friends from all clans.

There has, lately, been a lot of tension between Alliance and Ancients. Some of it revolves around specific incidents, some around general impressions or interpretation of behaviors, and some just based on unverifiable rumors. Axon and I have spoken at length. Neither of us want things to escalate. Those who have been around a long time may recall the nasty times between Berserkers and Ancients. It made playing not very fun - especially if you have friends in both clans. No one really wins these types of 'wars' - it simply adds a level of stress that makes the game less enjoyable for many.

i won't try to address any specific incidents here - but we are actively trying to resolve some issues and offer recompense where appropriate.

One thing we did decide: for EDL 6* bosses, we will shout that the boss is up, so every clan has the opportunity to get there. No secret EDL boss kills. The shout will be when the boss is first noticed by someone, and when it looks like an attack might actually happen (people start to gather). Appropriate time will be given for people to arrive - you should announce you are coming in shouts (or clan chat that is relayed to the group).

Having been though many updates, i can say that tensions and poor decisions often occur at this time when suddenly everyone is trying to level and competition is very high. leveling costs time and money and no one wants to waste either. In general, rooms are first come first served, but we should make allowances for sharing an area where appropriate. We should also try to group. In many zones there are good leveling areas for different level mobs - like 217 room, a 218 room, a 220 room, a 216-218 area on floor 5. if your group is level 216 (max) in a 220 room, please consider moving to the 217 room if a higher level group comes in - since you will still get the same xp and they will have a place to level. Though i think this is common courtesy, it is also worth saying. The other floors also have multiple areas of different level mobs.

i have no problem using this thread to clear the air and try to get on better footing. as i mentioned we are going to try to address individual issues off line. However, please keep comments respectful. Let's work toward a better working relationship, not fuel the flames and make things worse.

i know that we will never get everyone on board. But i hope that everyone will be heard and understood. We don't need unanimity, but a large group consensus on how to move forward is a worthy goal.

thanks

Very well written Ak. +1

The key point is hermeneutics, which has been structured by misinformation and disinformation. Previous attempts at communication were masked by personal biases, both warranted and unwarranted, that should be set aside to allow for a compromise. To ensure damage control so the conflicts don't further exacerbate, all members of our clans need to abide by the terms if an agreement is made. I say "all" because if two persons get into a feud, our clans will be dragged into muddy water and will continue an endless cycle of bs. There are some main issues:
1. Boss calls. Address above. Mordy, Hrung, Aggy, and 6* EDL should be called. Lugh is at a point where we are able to kill Aggy and Hrung with ease. However, they should be called just so everyone's happy.
2. Alliance bash. Unless we have clans filled with Gandhis, it is statistically impossible for us to all like each other. Lol. There are definitely some members who are friends and others not so much. Alliance is plural; we are collectivist individuals. Yes, we work as a clan, but no, that does not mean we vicariously represent each other. It is not okay for other members to be punished because one member disrespected you some days ago. Again, this relates to personal biases, which definitely needs to be set aside, and more importantly should not be acted upon.
3. Alliance as dominant. We are in no way, nor have we ever, formed a clan under a "dominant clan" ideology. This relates back to the old Alliance because of recurrent members. I was not in old Alliance so it's non of my business, but more that half of new Alliance are new members without previous dispositions to the old Alliance feud/mentality. We rarely actively recruit, only in cases of close friends. If a player asks to join, then we will consider their fit to our clan.
4. Tank rotation. There are many more-than-capable end-game tanks, most of which are bored because there is a default tank. This is not about who is the better tank. Quite frankly, since we are not a dkp server, the tank gears even out. It is about leveling a warrior to end-game, then ending up autoing a boss 90% of the time. This obviously only applies to warriors who prefer tank. Thus, a tank rotation should be implemented. Since we all have different time zones and play times, a rotation order wouldn't work. I suggest the first tank who arrives at the spawn site is the tank for said boss. Early bird gets the worm.

It is important for the clan leaders to communicate and reach a mutual understanding. After, the rest of the clans need to be informed.

I like this so much. Lugh shall remain as it is. Thanks Ak for thinking of a constructive solution to this. I really admire ur wisdom.

With regards to grouping for leveling, I will not push into requiring people to group. I personally have limited game time lately. 15 minutes of lixing I would rather spend with friends rather than randoms who just talk to me to lix or when they need stuff. I'd rather solo and talk to clan and friends or just leave and come for another time.

The tower opens up a lot of things to do. New quests, the new grind and we still have carrow. These should all be enough to keep people busy with the game content and not bother with petty things.

Oh, looky! Killain! No effin line...aja!

Shout bosses? Why?
So someone camps and others lix and everyone gets to get the benefits of the camper? Sounds unfair to me.

Allow sufficient time for everyone to arrive? Are you serious?
It can take 3 minutes to reach certain bosses, and you want everyone to wait for everyone?

I respect your opinion Ak and I understand you have problems between clans however this will just make the game unplayable. Why even camp a boss if you'll get called to it no matter what? Why waste so much time waiting for people to come when you can handle it yourselves?

Why be in different clans if the only difference between you all is the blue name over your head?

There's a difference between being generous and hand holding babies. I think we need to learn the difference here.

+1, i belive in independence, YOU the player should be responsible to know when the bosses will be, if you care about them. No one should have to be told when a boss is. And waiting for people, thats unfair, if they aren't there then they aren't there just start the fight. If they werent there already then they obviously didnt care enough to camp it.
