It used to be that christmas was celebrated starting december 25 and running until january 5, thus the 12 days. This became established in practice sometime in the 400-500s of our common era (AD or CE) and lasted for a few hundred years.
The concept of an extended fall/winter celebration, which led into what is now called christmas, has it's roots in Samhain with the Lord of Misrule, as well as the Saturnalia. In that way, we come full circle to celtic times

The Christians were just rising to power and they needed more feasts banquets and fun things to make people join them. They decided to take existing pagan holidays such as saturnalia and flip them to a Christian equivilant on the same day.(they did this for Almost all the Christian holidays) So people would be feasting and celebrating on that day anyway which made the transition from paganism to Christianity easier when emperor titus(I believe) abolished the roman polytheism religion and adopted Christianity's(ironic after hundreds of years of prosecution ) and that is why the Vatican is located in Rome and the pope is there!

Interestingly enough if you examine the roots of abrahamic religions you will find the stories to be flipped over versions of pre-existing stories from other faiths to get people to join them too. Lots of people get persecution and prosecution wrong as well, it's usually just what psychologists call projection.

Yea like the son of Horus(I think) in the Egyptian religion died on the 22nd of December and was ressurected on the 25th of December(this preceded Christ by approximately 4000 years).

I think part of what you call copying other religions is just the fact that because the events actually took place many different cultures had stories about them (ie the flood; nearly every culture has a story about that; you could call it plagiarism, but honestly it makes more sense that it actually happened).
