Luxury Items

Are the luxury items useful at end game? I am an old player and just returning from the 2012 days.

Hey there, welcome back! A lot has changed since then.

At an absolute endgame level (with access to the best gear in the game), a lot of the endgame boss loot is better than luxury items (especially considering that most endgame players have access to a ton of premium consumables, and therefore don't really need to worry about regen or haste gear).
However, for the majority of the game (including most endgame players) several lux pieces are still useful to have (though most people prefer old Event jewelry over most of the gear that can be bought in stores currently).

For example: offhand luxury weapons are a must-have for most players, haste rings can be semi-common, and various endgame lux necklaces/rings are useful for boosting your survivability or damage.

Really it all comes down to how much gold you have, what boss loot you have access to, what character you are playing, and how you are playing them. For example, my ranger has a luxury offhand, lux necklace, and a lux ring - mostly because I got them for a decent price, and don't have any boss loot that is better than them. On the other hand, my mage only has a lux offhand, with the rest of his gear being various skill boosting gear from mob/boss loot.

Good info thanks.

Another Question on Mounts:
I see that there are 2 places to get mounts through bounty and through mount tokens. Is one better than the other?

Both are fine. Mount tokens get you to max faster but are incredibly expensive, bounty tokens are 100% cheaper but it takes much longer to reach max.

If you don’t have a pet however I suggest you go for a pet first and then worry about getting a battlemount when you reach endgame (battlemounts are really only useful for dl/edl/cg offhands which come much later into the game). Pets have a lot more benefits especially if you go with something like the hare/rabbit

Mounts are also less useful if you die a lot, because with battlemounts, anytime you die with one equipped, you have to return to the castle to revive it, or use a plat consumable Mount Whistle, or wait 1 hour. Pets on the other hand stay despite death, but you also have to keep buying food for them.

As for mount/pet tokens vs bounty tokens for mounts/pets, Zkills pretty much summed it up. I save up all my bounty tokens to upgrade my pets/mounts, but it's very slow. Mount/pet tokens are pretty expensive (ranging anywhere from 30-40k for pet tokens, or 50-70k for mount tokens depending on the server).

Agree with all of the above.
If you get frustrated with your character speed, you're better off getting a novelty mount (like the dragonstaffs) and swapping between it and weapons as a battlemount isn't much of an improvement at low levels.

Also, as a clarifier on lux: leveling under 100 has been tweaked pretty extensively in that they've lowered the xp curve and added more xp quests. As a result of that, the first bit of the game is a bit abbreviated compared with some of the grinding later in the game and, as such, buying much lux isn't generally viewed as worthwhile until higher levels. (example being melee; heroic ammy and a lux offhand (50/100) could probably last you until DL depending upon your server).
Like Eragon said, most end-game builds revolve around raid gear, but there are some exceptions that make really good fillers until you get raid gear.

Not to divert any attention from your post but for any noobs out there dont waste your time buying chests in Hope's of getting a mount. If my math is at all accurate you could be looking at opening over 1,000 chests. Most servers that's between 35-60k per chest you could instead just sell for profit and buy 50 of them off other players.

Very true, and doesn't solely apply to new and/or lower level players. no one should buy chests with the goal of getting specific items - that just leads to disappointment when it doesn't happen.
