Re: iTunes picture contest update?

I also don't want to sound rude or anything but:
When the competition was announced some general guidelines were provided as to what kind of pictures would be good for the iTunes categories. However, I can't provide the actual guidelines we used for each picture as they are something I simply cannot disclose. It is entirely possible that the guidelines provided were too general, and if we hold a similar competition we will review them before posting it.
Community, if every picture submitted didn't meet the guidelines then either it was a huge coincidence that everyone had something wrong with it or the guidelines are too specific and what you posted was too general. I fail to see how you expected people to submit screenshots without specific rules and regulations; it's like telling a policeman to arrest criminals without telling them the criminal offenses they are allowed to arrest someone against.
Again, I really don't want to sound like an argumentative old hag, but why can't you disclose the guidelines or narrow them down slightly? We're not asking you to disclose them, only to know why they are too tightly kept :) I hope you understand. Sorry again.

OK that's a bit clearer - thank you. I did, however, tailor my images for the iTunes categories which could influence whether my images got chosen for the Community Favourite. But I understand, thank you!
All images that were submitted were considered equally for the Community Favourite category, regardless of what the original submission was for.

I understand your frustration, and I wish I could be more forthcoming about the guidelines, but unfortunately I simply can't.

I think the best way to describe it would be to compare it to several drama competitions and exams I took part in when I was younger. In these exams and competitions, we knew generally what the judges/markers were looking for in terms of our performance, but we did not know the exact marking criteria which they used to judge what we had prepared. Even after the exam/competition, we were still not allowed to know exactly what we were marked on, we were simply told how well we did or if we passed or failed.

The screenshot competition is a similar situation. We told people what we were looking for in general, but we didn't want to disclose exactly what criteria each image would be judged on. I think the idea behind this was to gather a wide range of images, and not just lots of pictures which were essentially the same as they had all stuck rigidly. We wanted to see what amazing screenshots you could all come up with, and like I said there were some absolutely fantastic images, ones which I wish we could feature on iTunes, but unfortunately it turned out that in this competition we couldn't.

Again, I understand how frustrating this must be, and I'm really sorry that I'm not able to say any more, but I've made it a little bit clearer and you understand.
