What is the point of this posting? To show how smart u are? Nobody understand or care to read. Failed.
No, putting down and ridiculing people that understand how this game (and other things) really work is the biggest fail.

<sarcasm on> I don't understand it! Witchcraft! Burn him at the stake! </sarcasm off>

Back to original OP....

One thing I learned from EQ was that haste and damage bonuses rule for DPS. The more damage gear you have and the faster you can hit will win the day. Great info on how and what to choose for damage gear and character builds.

One thing I'll add when going for upgrading gear is looking at your personal economics of the situation. Almost all of my lux and damage gear I have will be passed down to my alts, only exception is my quiver. So while other gear may be better and have more damage I will be selling and upgrading my quiver first with new update then start getting all the other stuff. Unless there is something that is sooooo completely amazing......

Correction (regarding reduction according to your calulations and data):
1-[1/(1+armor/max damage/2)]

1/(1+500/100/2) is a 29% reduction
1/(1+500/500/2) is a 67% reduction

This makes no sense since since more damage is being done and a higher reduction is taking place. Similarily, if we reduce armor instead of adding damage we get this...

1/(1+500/100/2) is a 29% reduction
1/(1+1000/100/2) is a 17% reduction

How do you take more damage with more armor?!

Lets try using my tweak:
1-[1/(1+500/100/2)] is a 71% reduction
1-[1/(1+1000/100/2)] is a 83% reduction

Makes more sense, doesn't it?

Your formula is correct for calculating reductions.

I was calculating damage done not damage not done.

So reduced to, rather than reduced by. Got it

Just to promote metagaming, note that this is general and applies to every type of damage seperately, using resistances to each specific type of damage.

Papi, when you did your testing, did you make sure to only use physical or elemental damage?

Say my resistance to fire is 120 andy armor is 400 and I'm against a rogue who does 300 pierce and 80 heat damage.
His damage would reduce to...

1/(1+400/300/2) = 60% of the pierce damage which is 180
1/(1+120/80/2) = 57% of the heat damage which is 46

So the average damage would be 226 (59% of theoretical stat damage)?

Thie data I showed used ancient Weapons only. I wanted to isolate armor vs physical damage and not to get elemental issues messing up the formulas.
