Re: Why don't we sell end game drops?

I don't think anyone is saying to sell crowns or other raid boss top end gear. Just things like crappy armor rings, spring to life skulls and the rest of the junk to buy items for the clan.

I'm pretty sure on any world a noob can get lucky on a 4s spider and get gloves eventually it's not going to usurp top clans.

Besides the difficulty of doing it fairly to keep drama down I think it's a good idea.

Perhaps it could just cause too much drama.

I too considered this idea but it's comes with lots of drama. Who will benefit from the gold or play items received for the boss drops? That's the first problem. 2nd there has to be a system of checks and balances or the clan will swear leadership sold the drop. 3rd there is a cancer in every clan ready to debate with leadership at every turn. Some are even bold enough to do it in clan chat. I think it's a great idea but it adds to the headaches because it takes a lot to do it right. It's not worth the trouble and when people want to try different builds the gear gets used.

The reason to me is simple. If everything in the game could be bought, what is the point of joining a good clan like resurgence? I simply make offers that people cannot resist to buy dl drops and get full dl gear without efforts. Then, CH becomes a game for the rich kids. And people will not need to observe rules and decent behaviours and can still get end game items. So, not allowing sale of end game items provide the moral fabric that keeps clan in unity and promotes teamwork and solidarity among clan members and encourages desirable in-game behvaiour. That to me is the most important reason why we should not allow selling of end game items.
Well said.

I think people in general should be responsible for their own items. Choosing to sell em, as for rival clans, who cares? If your truly a better gamer than your enemys selling useless items shouldn't make a big difference. I for one sell my stuff to people i dont like all the time and eventually they sell the same items again.

First Time Celtic Hero, Long time MMORPG raider.

I have had the pleasure of being involved in some of the most intense raiding (bossing) in some of the most outstanding MMOs. Particularly, many of you will know that EverQuest arguably takes the cake for masochistic loyalty to a game/guild/raid. This same issue has come up in EQ and any other MMO I have played. I am not at CH end-game, nor will I be for some time. However, I thought I would weigh in on a subject of which I feel I am quite familiar.

The natural competitive nature of games like EQ and CH drive us to build a sense of loyalty to our clan/guild that drives to the heart the concept of a clan "hoard." I think that there will always be a fairly even split for the argument to sell/give away boss drops. Primarily, the argument against giving/selling this loot to non-clan members revolves around the time and energy spent to gain the loot no matter how trivial.

However, I think it is ultimately up to the clan leadership to determine what stays in the hoard and what goes! I, for one, think it would be wise to assist your tanks and healers with the consumables they require to stay alive during boss fights. Selling unneeded loot can likely go a long way in supplying idols, restos and lixes to offset the likely high cost of breaking into new content.

Every leadership group is different, and every server is different. But some things will always stay the same: It is expensive to raid/boss, members who gain loot will not always stay in the clan, and some members will always distrust their leaders.

I would encourage anyone to focus less on the hoard and more on the experiences of enjoying the time spent with friends. There is inevitable loss that cannot be avoided. To me, that is the greatest reason to take advantage of dusty bracelets and rings in the bank, turn them into gold, and prepare for that next expensive foray into new content!

Let me clarify something here, because I just got chewed out by my clan chief for even starting this topic. Apparently someone in my clan has started a rumor about me wanting to sell drops.

I have seen many topics about low level players yelling at the top clans about hoarding drops. Here is a recent example:
wow, that sounds like a jerk thing to do, by withholding drops from other clans and making their gaming experience terrible. Maybe someone should come to Morrigan and wipe the floor with you guys. Hmm, im thinking of a certain person that can do it :)

My goal was to see the other side of this argument, and to show that there are many good reasons for keeping drops in clan. If you read my original post, you would see that I never endorsed or denounced selling drops, I stayed neutral in my post to start a conversation about this.

If it helps Bitey, I've been following this thread and I didn't read it as you saying you wanted to sell drops, but rather merely a hypothetical discussion about why it doesn't happen and would it be better if it did. I've actually found it interesting to see people's thoughts on it because it isn't the first time I've heard it mentioned. Personally, I think it's been one of the most intriguing hypothetical discussions I've seen on the forums for a while, particularly since many of the contributors are people who handle banks for end-game clans on different servers. Thanks for starting the chat.
