Maybe it did give 4x but u are leveling on mobs under your level?

There is a known glitch, where if you use any elixir like super knowledge, haste attack etc and then use a super combo. When the standard/ordinary elixir is expired, it cancels the effect of that type of elixir in the combo.

Example:
I equip a Heroic Knowledge and Heroic Elixir haste, then I put on a Super Combo - when the haste and knowledge elixir runs out, it takes the haste and knowledge boost away from the super combo.

If you were using a super xp elixir before using the super combo elixir, it wont update the xp elixir.

Combos add each elixir in one go. Although they show as 1 elixir, it is comprised of every super elixir except wisdom. If you use any super elixir before using a super combo, your combo wont activate that elixir.

Say i used a super haste and within the last 20 seconds of the haste, i used a combo. Although the combo does include haste elixirs, the previous super haste elixir will cause the current super combo elixir to not include the haste. Therefore after the last 20 seconds of haste elix, you wont have any haste elixirs unless you use another.

Almost certain it doesnt, otherwise people wouldnt be able to use super wisdoms with combo lixs
