I tried using the sort of computer-screen recording to record the device, however like all of you the screen was simply, black. My guess is because of varying graphical layouts between the iOS display and the computer display (like when you try to open a word document in Notepad, all you get is a ton of gibberish). The only way I could find to record the screen is to Jailbreak the device (which honestly isn't hard at all, didn't mess up my device, and unlike public opinion is 100% legal..however it does void the warranty, so judge the two flipsides). Once the device is jailbroken, install the application "Display Recorder" from Cydia (the App Store for jailbreakers), which allows you to record the screen in rather nice definition. It's what most of the CH youtubers use to record their gameplay.
The reason there isn't an App Store app for recording the screen is because Apple doesn't allow apps to actively function outside of the app (if that makes sense). So a screen recorder app, which could be recording the screen while the app is open, would stop recording when the app is closed.
