Re: A game of frustrations

I think the BIGGEST PROBLEM with drops right now, is not that the drop table is messed up, but rather that the skills are messed up. Allow me to prove my point -

There are SOOOO MANY of the skills that just are not equal to their counterparts. For example, a ranger is probably not going to want to use explosive arrow? Why? Because the damage sucks! Nobody uses explosive arrow...A rogue? Nobody wants to use rend, simply because it's literally an auto attack with just a little bit of DOT, and that little amount of DOT isn't worth the skill.

Right now, rend looks something like this: (I'm using rend because I'm a rogue and have some frustrations with the skill*

Me: Cast's Rend
Mob: Takes 300 damage (same as one of my autos)
Me: Continues to auto attack/use other skills
Me: ...
Mob: Takes 50 damage from DOT
Me: Continues to auto attack/use other skills
Me:...
Mob: Dies before the rest of the DOT can take effect

Essentially what happened above, is I got 50 extra damage off of a skill. . . Really? Fifty extra damage off a skill? My points are better spent in a GOOD skill, that gives tons of extra damage, like quickstrike. Not only does quickstrike not interrupt an auto attack, but it does a little above average damage, essentially adding 350 damage.

That's why rend sucks.

If you changed it to do damage 3 times per tick for one tic and changed the damage to double each time , however, it'd be a lot better and more equal to quickstrike, and might look something like this:

Me: Casts rend
Mob: Takes damage from skill, and first 1/3rd tic damage of 50 damage
Mob: Takes second 1/3rd tic of 100 damage, I continue to auto
Mob: Takes third 1/3rd of tic for 200 damage.
Mob: Dies

So, basically you'd get the damage of the skill, which would essentially be an auto. Then you'd get the damage from the DoT, which would add 350 damage over 1 tic. Now, all of the sudden, you have quickstrike and rend on EQUAL terms, and now picking your skill is completely up to play style, rather than which skill is damn op and which has the strength of a wet paper bag.

I know this has been a long post and hard to follow, but I really hope it makes sense, at least to the admin. The reason you are getting complaints about drops, is because nobody wants a godly whatever of rend that adds 10 points to rend, simply because nobody uses rend. That's why when one of those drop, people throw it away, and come complain on the forums that nothing good ever drops.

Seems I forgot to state that I am not arguing towards drop rate changes or tiered things. Im fine with the way the drop rates are. Im arguing the fact that these bosses drop skill items that people simply would not use. I dont care about the fact that mostly low tiered items drop.
I come from a perspective where we can run scripts and see the numbers haha the numbers are not nobody (I've been researching all of this for the loot review).
I find it extremely hard to believe that there is a single end-game player who is actively running a build that uses, at a level greater than 1, skills like bandage wounds, sacrifice, energy harvest, spring of life etc.
I've been a high end game player in many mmos, if items I wanted dropped 100% of the time where would be the challenge? I know it's frustrating and honestly I could type till my hands are numb on why changing the drop rates on an item could effect server dynamics so harshly but many heroes would not see it that way and trust me I've been in that position.
I dont care at all about the drop rates. Sure, I'd like to see them be higher, but I totally understand and am perfectly OK with the way they are now. What I do care about is the fact that these bosses drop items that an extreme minority would use(Im talking about items for useless skills).

Really long paragraph by Core Collapse I have shortened into this quote
Class balancing and skill balancing is something we are looking deeper into :) Lot of the feedback I take on here is about balancing.

Small team though so don't expect miracles overnight haha :) (I've copied your paragraph into my document)

Haha, thanks for reading. Also, a lot of my posts are rather....complainingish, however I do want to give props to the dev team for the job they are doing. A year and a half ago when I last played, a post from the admin was rare, and end game updates came out once a year, maybe once every year and a half. In the time I've been gone, you've come out with 2 ( I think ) end game updates, A LOT of game features, a new engine, android, and an admin who interacts with the community on a daily basis, rather than a monthly one. You're literally, in my opinion, doing 10x better than you were even a year ago and I LOVE you for it. (no homo)

It's what's making me become interested in the game again.

Then this is more a discussion about class balancing and not the drop tables which really could have used its own thread to avoid confusion. We are looking into class balancing and skill balancing.

You may find it hard but that's the way it is, many players play in many ways it's easy to not see it that way but that is video games. You duck I dodge etc.

We will look into future items being more for the general hero rather than what you say a "minority" case but you have to understand, what you think to be a minority may not be that way. You are on one server when there is quite a lot of them :)

And we are glad you are back :) I love hearing stories from old players and seeing old screenshots haha It amazes me how far the game has advanced :D

 Glad you enjoy my involvement, I do it cause I really do love the game it's great fun and the heroes are amazing :D It's like 11:30 Pm here and I'm still online because I find the game great :)

Yes, we got off topic and ended up talking about skill balance instead of drop rates, however I think the two go hand in hand.

If you're going to have skills that are used by a minority, items for them should be dropped in minority too, right? That way a royal ring of shadowstrike will sell for the same amount as a royal ring of rend, instead of having a 150k difference.

I used bandage half maxed and I know one that maxed, I know one with maxed sacrifice, energy harvest could be really cool if wasnt so weak and SoL is just total trash :)
