Re: An Insight on Class Inequality: Rangers vs. Rogues

In my abstract, I specifically defined the powers and limitations of both the rogue and ranger class.

In now way am I belittling rogues in this post or saying my burst damage should be the same.

I'm saying that both our overall DPS should be the same that is, a rogue will achieve his DPS through speed, and a wide skillset while rangers will achieve their DPS through ranged, heavy bow attacks and slower, more powerful attacks.

That is my take on it. Hate to break it to you rogues, but nowhere in this game was it ever mentioned that rogues are the kings of DPS. If that were the case, there would be no need to make a ranger because his "all-roundedness" is a joke.
Rangers are an alternative form of DPS that everyone should use in a raid boss. He is slower yes, but he makes up for it with powerful hits and skills.

And herein lies the problem. We don't have skills so we are left with a poor endgame style of play.

I am definitely getting stigmatized by the rogue population after my previous post. Here comes the torched and the pitchforks! :(
They are blinded by arrogance, most of them are fairly new players who have always seen rogues as the king class, but after reading this thread, OTM should improve or add new skills for rangers as we are too limited. If rangers eventually become the better dps after those changes, who are you (frustrated rogues) to get so pissed off after such a long year of dominance.

what i dont get it is why the general rogue population is being called out and denounced when some of them agree with rangers needing buffs but you still think all rogues will just go crazy mad over changes to rangers... can you just stop with the bs. if rangers outdps rogues so be it idk why its such a drive to see rogues be pissed after not being the best. your probably going to look at my post than look at my sig and say oh hey a rogue looks hes going crazy over the an idea of rangers outdpsing him oooo i knew it. But seriously cut it out with rogues being pissy when some of us know that changes need to be implemented.. i mean who wouldnt want faster kills because rangers got a skill dmg boost and changes so they are better in that way

If rangers want the same dps as a rogue, then give rogues the option of
-kiting a boss
-Healing others
-the ability to have a ranged attack (throwing knives) and have a similiar dps to that of a dagger
-the ability to half the attack speed of a endgame boss
-the ability to have camo while attacking (fix hide)
-the ability to boost the attack of whole group

And then sure, I wont mind if rangers have the same or more dps of a rogue. I agree that rangers should have similar dps to that of a rogue , but more? No unless rogues support skills are buffed to the equivalent to that of rangers.

Currently, mages should be the class that would get the lock of the boss with nuke damage but overall have less dps than that of a rogue and a ranger.

I'm a ranger, and I would personally like for my "all around class" to be improved. Like light heal should be ranged combat not first aid. Mord light heal braces give ranged combat ability while bandage wounds give first aid... Like somebody didn't think it through did they... All our support skills should be ranged combat im pretty sure everybody agrees in that

Ranger:Nolo2
Rogue:NOLOsexyTIGER
Mage:Nolojr
Warrior:SwoopingEagle & Aspirex
Druid:Mininolo & D1RTYS4NCH3Z

I think that both classes, and generally more than 1 class should be equal on dps while being top dps for actual competition, and each single one dpsing in a different way, and each one has different extra things. What I dont understand, if going by these strict class roles that most ppl use as an excuse of rogues being 'dps kings', i dont see why none of these ppl think rogues should be sneaky or stealthy, because in this game they're neither.
Sneaky Attack? Ha! Even iceblast is sneakier than that. Stealth? No Stealth really.
So yes if going by class roles, not only there should be usually 3 or 4 top dps that are equal, rogue is the only class that isnt even close to fullfilling his actual role of being sneaky.

I agree whole-heartedly with this last statement. This sums up the whole objective of my post. Reiterating and only on DPS (ignoring support)

A DPS warrior, a rogue, and a ranger and a mage should all be equal on DPS and each single one doing so in a different way.
  • Warrior: Heavy, powerful blows with his sword
  • Rogue: Light, sneaky, extremely fast with his daggers
  • Ranger: Heavy, ranged, blows with his bow
  • Mage and Druid: Powerful Damaging Spells
HOWEVER:

A ranger and a warrior will get depleted over time from their type of damage which requires more energy. Likewise, mages and druids get depleted faster from using up their energy pool for spells. If they want to last longer, they must sacrifice DPS. A rogue will sustain the fight and that's why he will win DPS fights over the others. He can continue to strike and cast skills when all the others have run out of energy and that's why he will dominate in the long run.
The longer the fight, the more rogue stands out as a "top-dps". That's how it should be. In terms of damage, it should be the same. In terms of damage over time, rogues will stand out the more the fight drags on.

^^ This chart is amazing. I think that a lot of the problems that we see with class balance could have been overcome by having an overall cohesive vision on what a class's role should be. A chart like this would have helped OTM develop skills, because they could refer back to it whenever they decide to introduce new skills or gear. In my opinion, a lot of the skills seem to have been implemented haphazardly and without much care. Because of that we get strength built rangers with no str skills, druids with energy issues, mages whose skills get evaded nonstop, the stats on the dl warrior shield, and rogue skills that never get used like play dead. And don't get me started on the damage variation that plagues all classes. Every class needs some work, and I think you pointed out some good areas for rangers in your original post.
