Re: Question about the Rez Idol Nerf Debate

In simpler words, this was a ploy to sacrifice one plat item to increase profit on others.
But if OTM's goal is profit, then why did they add cooldowns on restos and idols? :?
So people wouldnt spam them continuously, this game wouldn't be considered an MMO then, just an in app purchase game.

What im saying is, instead of going all guns on this topic about idol zerging, look at the other side of it. People with platinum will be the champions in this game.

The only thing i really dont understand about this game is how they advertise it as being able to play it all the way for free. For free implies that anyone could make it to endgame without any purchases, yet this entire game is based on plat items, whether you buy it or someone else buys and sells too you. If a server was started without a plat item option, people would see what a flop of a free game this is, rather already a inn app purchase game
World- Mabon
Sopdu- 180 rogue-ranting
CelticsHero- 144 warrior-ranting

Oh, so you want a platless game? Me too, I would also like to see the developers make zero money off their full time jobs.

Should they deserve our money for putting time and effort into programming this game, and running the servers? Ridiculous. Of course not.

/sarcasm

Obviously they expect players to buy plat. Just because others buy plat doesn't force you to… It is entirely possible to play the game without spending any real life money.

A game is still free-to-play if you can spend in-game currency on premium items that someone else bought.

Lvl160 rogue on Android, Balor. Yes idol Nerf does kinda suck in some ways, it kinda kills Zerging, however it promotes strategy and unity while taking down harder bosses, yes restos are consumed like 1.5x as much now, but they aren't really that expensive are they? Even if you buy em by the crate, but---
I would very much like to see restos get some sort of buff, not necessarily higher HP, but maybe a slightly reduced cast time or something? Maybe a percentage based pot... Idk. Either way point is the idol Nerf isn't bad, it just makes you wanna stay alive longer so people really buckle down in tough fighs, adding to the immersion somewhat.

Good to hear from someone with real, actual experience, instead of just speculations and unfounded complaints.

Aileron, there isnt just ONE reason why OTM would decide all of a sudden to nerf idols.

I agree that this will not allow people to "zerge" bosses, but this isnt OaC, something you state over and over again, giving examples of other MMOs, Celtic Heroes is a unique MMO where platinum items get you to high places.

If we look at this with the perspective of a business mind, you will see how much more profit OTM will gain from this nerf.

Platinum items such as: Heroic elixers will be sought after more, increasing chests sale. Restorations will be bought more to be used after resurrecting. Sigils will be bought more to gain that hp and energy in that 1-2 second of idleness after resurrecting.

Please for Gooodness sake stop looking at this with the zerging perspective, there is more to this.
I think you guys already know that im one of the more outspoken critics of OTM and CH, especially its shortcomings. Some folks even make a joke when they see something "positive" from my posts, to which I understand because it is rare that I do that. This one change OTM did would be on the "positive" side and I commend them for taking that brave step, i bet they knew how unpopular that decision would be and yet, it had to be done.

Your argument about this being a decision to increase profits for OTM is really just a cop out. Your refusal to believe that its a change for the betterment of the game and insists that its a ploy for profit only tells me that you accept that dying and resurrecting is necessary to beat an encounter. It shoudnt be. All your arguments (in that large font) merely outlines what negative effects the idol change has AFTER DEATH. The solution is simple: avoid dying as much as possible and you wont have these issues.

My clannies will attest to the fact that I dont like it when people die in our raids. Im always after suggestions how to reduce idol counts and always strive for the perfect kill. When we were leveling 150-180 and doing DL bosses, our dkp system had a zero-death bonus. It can be done. Ive experienced it first hand. We had more instense battles, everyone tried to pay attention at whats going on around them, and we laughed at and made jokes, calling them noob when someone dies and "blame" them for losing the dkp bonus. Whats the difference you ask? Does it matter if we kill a boss with zero deaths or 100 idols? We get the same drops so from an item perspective, no, there is no difference. But man, players need to get some pride on their gameplay. Its such a sad state when majority of players dont care about not dying, and even though we wont see it in iOS for years, at least Android has the right environment from the get go.

Really old-school Avalon players can tell you stories how I expected everyone to max bamdage wounds during Update 2 and it was actually part of our clan requirements, because we didnt have many druids and we need everyone contributing healing on every Stonevale/Meteoric boss. Update 2 players would know how rare pots and idols were back then, and we survived. Im not saying Bandage Wounds is the way to go now, but its really up to the players to find solutions to challenges in the game besides whipping out the credit apple.

The change to resurrection idols is being made as part of a bigger game balance push. Now that we're past the bulk of the design work for the Destiny Engine the design team is focusing on class balance, we will be making changes to overall class balance, role balance(how well each class does its job) and gear. Existing idol functionality won't change, any idols you have now will work exactly the same when the Destiny Engine launches.
