This is what an arcane quiver does. You automatically materialize an arrow at your fingers without having to flex a muscle.

To me this image gives the impresseion of the ranger firing arrows in AMAZINGLY quick succession.. maybe even using a skill, like rapid shot.

The ability to do that, as well as slow enemies down and dance around the forest like oo look at me i can kill a mob (eventually) is what makes a ranger and attractive class to play.

I think that was kind of the message that john was going for when he drew it.

In legend, there have been bows that generated the arrow from itself, as the string was being pulled back. Once released, an arrow/bolt of energy shot towards the target- normally an insta-kill.

THE COUNCIL OF THE DAL RIATA ENQUIRIER HAS AGREED THAT ON THIS OCAISION THE ARROW HAD BEEN FIRED AND THE RANGER IS FIRING SO FAST HE HAS DRAWN THE BOWSTRING IN PREPARATION FOR THE FORTHCOMING ARROW.

As the Creator of the image I can assess that what ChopstickNinja said is close to what it's happening, the ranger is so badass it's shooting so fast you can see both the shoot motion and the rest pose. Nice meme tho!
