Re: Casters and Spears

#22
TBH instead of spears, the caster Wanda and totems should get a massive revamp. Spear is a warrior type of thing, wouldn't fit well with the caster theme lol
I don't know why DL wand is crush and EDL is magic... with DL wand you could at least use crush lure and have decent melee.

But ya, totems and wands could use a buff or at least tie their damage to focus instead of str.

It would be awesome to see some viable staffs come out. Plenty of other games have polearm type weapons for casters. Take Order and Chaos for example, the healer class, monks, have both dps oriented and healer type weapons available. Both types have pole arms. Pole arms are typically a little slower, but pack a lot more punch.

I'd love to roll my Druid with a big nasty pole arm type weapon that has similar stats to a totem + lux offhand, considering it would be a 2hander. They could even introduce a polearm caster spell with it, maybe an AoE type skill as you swing your pole arm around striking all within X amount of radius.

I think it'd be great to see two DL/EDL weapons per class to choose from.

Rangers: bow/dual wielded daggers
Rogues: dual daggers/polearm
Warrior: sword (buffed for tanking) axe(not just gele, but with divine dmg)
Mage: wand/dagger
Druid: totem/gnarly staff

This could help move CH from cookie cutter, almost boring holds to expanding horizontal content and more template customization.

I played Última Online, and as a caster, I could use any weapon I wanted, just had to train up that skill (swords/fencing/archery/macing/wrestling). Each weapon had two skills tied to it, instead of skills themselves. I could be a mahe wielding a slow swinging but hard hitting halberd, or a mahe with a katana or a mage with a crossbow. Character templates were limitless. It was a lot easier to be a unique individual with a viable template as opposed to having to use gimp weapons to event attempt to be different and still viable.

Casters using spears with some spear ability, or even daggers, is a step in the right direction. And if you say that mages shouldn't have anything but a wand, Gandalf begs to differ.
