The fact that casuals get the same chance as active players already is a reward.
It only takes one ultra rare godly/void item that is won by a less active player and pretty soon most will realize it's not the best/optimal way to distribute loot if your long term goal is to keep killing bosses.

I know DKP systems are hard to maintain and takes dedication but if leaders value their members time and effort, they wouldn't punish active members into relying on dumb luck to get geared.
But casuals don't have the same chance over time. Sure that one Moon Helm goes to a first time attendee but that is the exception surely.

The definition of an active player is they attend a lot of bosses over time. So they get more chances to roll. I get what you are saying but you seem to be coming from a big clan only view.

If you live in a 2 or 3 dominant clan world with lock battles etc a well run DKP system is the only fair way (if you are in those clans). How is effort rewarded for members of small clans on those worlds? A smaller clan might attend every boss and never get the lock and never get drops. Not much reward there for perfect attendance or much fun either (bring on Instances !!!).

If you just have rolling then, yes, it is messy but from a server wide perspective I think it is one valid way to reward effort (over time) given most clans seem to allow swapping drops. If there was a server DKP system that would be very interesting for many active Epona players I am guessing.

Epona has no true dominant clan/s, though over the years some have come close to being dominant, so our strange, very imperfect consensus has evolved. As soon as we have two dominant clans locking bosses I bet rolling would fade away again. It's curious that so much DKP prostelysing happens on the forums but little of the reverse.
