Mages are Worthless

#1
Once I first started playing a Mage it quickly became my favorite class..however, they are completely worthless now..They have high energy costs for spells that do the same or less damage as other classes regular attacks.. There is absolutely no reason to be a mage now, other than the cool looking fire spells, because we can't out dps other classes. And isn't that the whole point of a Mage? High damage spells?

Sure mages are good in pvp, but when it comes to leveling and boss runs, especially in the otherworld, they are terrible.

I have heard other people voice similar opinions on mages, and I talked to my clan and they agree as well..
Many people will say You just don't know how to build a Mage.. However, I have tried out many different builds and that all have similar results. If we put everything into focus, we can then sometimes out dps other classes.. And even then, we have to sit and recharge energy forever. And if all our points are in focus, we can't take any damage without dying..

Just wanted to voice my opinion on the Mage class, because until they are improved, I am quitting my Mage.
Sorry for my little rant...

What is the proper role of a mage?

Rogue should be the one hit wonder. Massive hit and run, hide then hit again.
Druids should be the doc. Low damage with lots of heal gets xp bonus for groups.
Warrior should be the tank. Great armor, average damage great defense, parrying and blocking of attacks
Ranger Should be the Artillary. Great mobility Long Range, Average Damage
Mage should be able to do all of the above but not as good as any of the above. He uses majic to simulate all other classes. The jack of all trades master of none. Your build should let you do two of the above but again not as well. Right now the Mage makes an OK rogue until he runs out of energy then he is toast.

1.the have cloak to do extra damage to bosses/mobs
2. They have so many lures that they can make any mob weak
3. They have 2 new good dps spells
4.they have energy boost to heal energy
At lower levels this is correct but in OW it is not.
1. Cloak provides little damage to anything but eyes
2. Lures are required to do any decent damage
3. Warriors with diamond 2h weapons do more damage over time than mage spells
4. Boost does not scale. With 2000 energy 20/20 boost is a waste of skill points

Well,
I've recently read like 10 red books, and I have tried many drastically different builds. I am pleased with my Mage now again. And as far as Mages being "worthless", my Lure of Assassins lowers a mob/boss' pierce resist by 426 (and that doesn't even list what my ring +4 does on top of that). Do you have any idea what the damage output of a Rogue/Ranger, that already regularly does good quick DPS, has if I lure his target? Its utterly unbelievable.

Yes I can solo with some Plat items, but in group, I'm in demand right now. And I don't have Incinerate yet. OW look out when I do!

Peace,

Ok, I need to start by saying that i have great gear. Gear gear gear makes a huge difference
Full diamond armor, heroic rejuv, and I use a golden bodkin of spirits, so rejuv there as well.
Carefully chosen rings and charms specific to the mob/boss I am going after.

So, with the gear and a build that is support/dps...

My mage freakin rocks

I can now "solo" brutus with my lvl 101 mage and my lvl 85 rogue working together. (would that be a duo? lol). I sure couldn't do that pre-update.

Much higher dps than before update
skills cast faster and with fewer updates with really high focus
I don't have incinerate yet, but freeze is awesome.
Yeah, OW mobs are still tough, but, um, they are supposed to be.

I think the biggest problem with the Mage and with many classes now is that this patch that just released today wasn't in the game for the last 3 weeks. Now mages will get incinerate quickly, they will get freeze they will get the skills they need to be effective.

But yes, the new Lures and especially lure of assassins is a godly support spell. I personally disagree with Papi, the Ranger is the jack of all trades, the Mage is a support DPS'er, the energy healing, the lure and cloaking and the dps make it a great support dps hybrid, but yeah without the new spells it just feels lame to some.

I think judgement on all classes needs to be reserved for about a week with this new patch, then let's see what's up.

Ok, so the energy regen did go down? I have only been on for a few min since patch (stupid work) but it seemed like my energy was not regenerating, even with ammy and bodkin. I was running out of energy killing dreamsongs for cryin out loud.

OK I'm going to show my age but here goes...
I have been playing a mage as my main in all sorts of RPG's for more than 20 years...this goes back to TSR paper based D&D (yes I have the original red box.)

I have to say thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, to the devs of Celtic Heroes for the changes they have made to mages with update 3. Mages freaking ROCK now! For the first time I find my self seeing the message "Kasha killed monster X" in groups! Nothing is perfect but mages are much better than they were pre-update.

Our nukes were pathetic before the update and there was nothing you could do about it. Now, with a proper build and some grinding to get those new abilities up I am easily able to solo OW one star mobs several levels higher than me, if I'm on my game I can regularly solo 2 star OW mobs higher than me and if the electronic 21 sided dice role well I can solo 3 stars.

Let me say that again because no one seems to be recognizing it: GET THE 5 NEW ABILITIES AND TRAIN THEM HARD. Training them is mostly passive so you MUST get them as soon as possible! Each of the colors of eyeballs seem to train a different ability or two so spend some time with each. It's like trying to build a proper sandwich with no bread...an impossible mess without them.

Honestly my BIGGEST GRIPES are minor:

1) My cloak is at 30/25 with rings - can you fix the skill description to reflect the true damage with the rings equipped? (this actually applies to all skills with ring modifiers)
2) Where are the caster lux items? Haste gloves are a waste to mages - I don't care how much you speed up my toothpick it is still a toothpick...lets speed up the nukes please.
3) That is MY cloak on the warrior and MY fire lure on the mob doing damage - I should get credit for the damage inflicted on the boss via my cloak - NOT the tank!

Just sayin!
Cheers!
