What does it mean to lock the target? Admin explains.

#1
I was under the impression that locking the target made it so only people in the persons group that hit first would be able to target the mob.

Others think it means that the first person to hit would get all the loot and other ungrouped players could still hit it.

Which is it? Thanks.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

The first person to hit the mob will lock it to their group - there will be a visible indicator above the enemy showing that the enemy is locked to them.

When the enemy dies, the loot goes to the group that has the lock regardless of who did the most damage to the enemy.

If the enemy resets because the attacking group wipes out or the enemy dies, the lock is removed.

If the group attacking the enemy wipes and other groups are also fighting the enemy, the group that wipes will lose the lock and it will transfer to the group that has done the most damage to the enemy.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification.

It sounds pretty good, the only thing that could be taken advantage of (that I can think of) is that it will be way easier to power level lower level players. One would only need to let the low level hit the mob, then you could destroy the mob for them in 1 hit or whatever ungrouped and the low level would get all the xp. So yes, Aileron, it does matter.

Other than that one flaw it would be great.

You would know then who is going to get the xp/drop and that would encourage people to group that person and help out. Also for aggaroth the "rival groups" can decide who gets the xp and loot this time, and take turns getting it. It wouldn't be a shocker who gets the drops, and less tempers would flare. This would really help facilitate better teamwork and clans bieng friendly and on better terms IMO.

I personally would much prefer this to the current system.
In terms of power levelling, it is a risk but it really is a risk now anyway. A high DPS player can do 30-40% damage on a boss today & the lower level player gets are larger portion of xp. Will it make it a bit easier? Yes.

Great idea? I strongly disagree. I am aware by speaking with people on other servers that ksing is a problem on those servers. On morrigan I do not believe this is a problem. I can tell you though I had to work very hard to get my warden and meteoric gear. Also I can say the best times I have had in this game were competing with other clans for bosses. We usually had 15-20 people waiting for the falgren spawn. As far as locking a target goes maybe I will just hit a mob first and play dead and let the other team take the agro. I hear on these forums all the time about the admin catering to higher lvls. I just don't see it. I actually feel that the admin in spitting in my face when they make it easier for lower lvls to obtain their gear, or make gear you can purchase better than the gear I worked for months to get. I think if you all keep up like this you won't have to worry about competing against higher lvls because there won't be any.

The developers have created and continue to add to a pretty cool MMO. Theirs is a thankless job. Lower Levels feel entitled to what the Highers have worked hard to achieve. Highers feel disrespected and somewhat exploit their weight in the game to gain more to what they have. Each side complains wanting 'balance' - but each really wants the balance shifted in their direction.

Well tested, polished content would be best, but with more content you could also spread out the player base in an effort to ease congestion. It is a balancing act I do not envy.

What each side really needs is patience and persistence - just keep plugging away and you will eventually get your hearts desire. IF the dev's make everything easier you will run through quests faster and then complain again that there is a lack of content. Put your nose to the grindstone and work your tail off for it.

Thank you Admin and Dev's for doing what you do - despite the endless complaining.
