There have been many people either wondering what aggro is or just saying silly things that are not true. So i have decided to teach you all what aggro really is:
Aggro is a number (a value). Each mob has a different value with this number towards each and every player. Now, the mob attacks the person with the highest aggro value. When you are "neutral" (away from mob), your aggro value to that mob is set to 0. If you are the first person to enter attacking range (eg: running up to a golem before someone else) the value is changed to 1 (this only effects the "offender", all other people around you still have 0 aggro until they attack). Attacking increases this value by a fraction of your damage dealt. Using skills on the person with the most aggro also increases your aggro.
Note: once your aggro is greater than or equal to 1, the mob will not stop attacking you until it either resets, or is killed
Note: Missed and Dodged attacks increase the aggro value by at least 1
Note: All non-self-cast skill increase aggro value by at least 1 (unless they are deflected)**
**This also applies to skill s such as distract, so if you use distract on a neutral mob it will start attacking you
Note: Once you have aggro, you can never have less than 1 aggro
Now, using these mechanics I will define some skills:
Taunt: Greatly increases your aggro value of the mob you cast it on
Warcry: Greatly increases your aggro value of mobs near a radius from the targeted mob
Distract: Greatly decreases your aggro value of the mob you cast it on
Play Dead: Makes the mob attack a different player (since you are dead) and decreases your aggro value by a bit
Calm: Greatly decreases your aggro value of all non-peaceful mobs
Now, I will help you all understand Wild Swing:
Wild Swing is different than all other AoE skills, and this is why:
1. It targets the "x" people with the most aggro (x=4 for Grimling, 5 for Askold, and 6 for Ymir)
2. Those people have to be in attack range of the boss (rangers do not get a free ride)
3. Winter Touch (a skill cast often by those bosses) sets all player's aggro to 1, allowing for people with little-to-no aggro to be hit.
I hope this small guide is helpful to you all.
