Servers will be going down for a short time this morning for server maintenance.

No changes to the game contents will be made during this maintenance.

funny how server upgrades just come up all of a sudden. perhaps a longer notice period in the future? I'm sure you had planned this more than just an hour ago.

And why can't you schedule and inform your customers about coming updates/maintence/patching and say that for example that servers will be down for up to an hour starting 12:00 GMT instead of "soon", which in the past has varied from 5 minutes to 3 hours on different occasions.

The reason for the maintenance is due to an issue which appeared; it wasn't planned, but it was essential that we fixed the issue.

We apologise for not providing more notice, but as soon as we became aware of the problem we posted about the downtime.

Just to give some more information, a backup server disk was upgraded which resulted in possible corruption in some of the data on this server.

As a precaution we therefore have to bring down the worlds in order to rebuild the data on this server.

This is purely server maintenance in response to a fault and nothing to do with scheduled upgrades or the actual game.

thanks for the info. it wasnt apparent it was an emergency since the in-game message said it was for a server upgrade, rather than a hardware failure that required immediate attention.

Thanks for pointing that out - I've updated the server message so that it reads the downtime is due to essential maintenance rather than being routine.

I understand that the word 'routine' may have led to some misunderstanding; I more intended it to mean that the maintenance was of a regular sort, rather than being scheduled. However I can see that that particular wording isn't very clear, so in future we'll ensure the server message is clear as crystal.
