Do spells/health affect loot drop

Ok, this is going to sound like a noob question, but I am going to throw it out there since I didn't find anything like it when searching. Basically, are there spells that if used have an impact on if you get a loot drop. I am mainly asking about solo, not group. That is, as a ranger, if I bolo a mob and take it down easily without taking and (or very little) damage, the pattern has been that the loot drop has been nothing or one in 20 kills. (ie, I am talking about killing the respawned same mob that). If I don't bolo, the pattern is more frequent (1 in 5 kills). Is this even something that could be confirmed, or is the randomness just that random. And, that I am seeing a pattern where there is no real pattern just because I want to see a pattern.

This is what I was thinking about as I was farming the 85 lizards. Lower levels get so many more drops than me (5 shadow manuals in a week). Me (1 in a week).

I have also thought you get more rare drops when you are just under the lvl of the mobs and then when you lvl past them the rate goes down. I never took detailed enough notes to confirm this it's just something that seems like it could be true.
