I wanted to get people's opinions on why clans do not sell their end game drops, but instead keep them banked to gather dust for all eternity. I am in a clan that does not sell drops (dragonlord, mordris, aggy, hrungnir, necro), but keeps them banked. We have some drops in there that no one will ever use, but some people outside of our clan would love to have.
Now I understand and agree that drops that the clan worked for should not be sold for personal gain, because everyone worked for them. But I am wondering how keeping an unwanted item banked benefits the clan. Would that item not be put to better use being sold, so that the profit could buy lix (or other items) for the clan? That way, we would be turning something unwanted into something useful, and it would benefit the whole clan.
I'm interested to hear people's perspectives on this. Please, discuss.
Re: Why don't we sell end game drops?
#2On most servers, there is some type of competition as this game isn't setup to have multiple top clans, as I'm sure you know. That being said arguments can be started, resentment can be formed, and no top clan wants to put food in their rivals mouth (figuratively speaking).I wanted to get people's opinions on why clans do not sell their end game drops, but instead keep them banked to gather dust for all eternity. Not to mention most people in the top clan of any given server needs gold as much as those outside of any given top clan. We get the best items from bosses for free basically. Most of us have enough gold saved up for when we need to buy some lixirs or other items and most clans have major plat buyers who gives clanmates discounts on items which saves them even more money.
To sum it up, clans save the items for alts and new recruits and are still self sufficient enough to get ahead without scraping up gold outside of the clan. All while keeping competition at bay.

Have you ever noticed that when people like something, they don't tell anyone, but when they hate something, they tell everyone?

#3Yeah i think the dont sell them because it is like a trophy, if you know what i mean

Re: Why don't we sell end game drops?
#4Unless other clans can kill the boss, they don't deserve the drops. Simple.

#5I did consider selling junk drops as u said but then i thought of this. The drops may be useless now, but you never know after new updates they may become useful. For example: 40 armor rings - maybe with Crafting we might be able to combine them with other rings and create a powerful item.
Or items that boost unused skills like SoL and energy harvest, maybe one day otm will improve these skills and make these items much more valuable. Combined with all the other reasons stated above, i would rather keep them for now.

#6Turn in X amount of unwanted end game items to an NPC to receive an upgrade of some sort. These drops do not vendor for much gold so it's best just to make a npc give one upgraded item that we would use for how many drops is required to turn in. There's a reason why we don't use these items. I strongly doubt high lvl players will want to buy a 40 armor ring from hrungr for x amount of gold. These items are dust collectors unfortunately.

#7This is probably the best reason I have heard so far. Admin recently said that with crafting they were thinging about making it possible to break down items to make crafting materials. I had forgotten about this.I did consider selling junk drops as u said but then i thought of this. The drops may be useless now, but you never know after new updates they may become useful. Re: Why don't we sell end game drops?
#8Its not just saving them for crafting, we never know what skills are going to be essential in the future.
Back in update 3, there wasnt any real reason to root bosses, so all our grasping roots rings usually got banked. Same with Warding rings, freeze, etc.
When update 4 came, there was a period when bosses where rooted so those grasping root skills became useful. Now we find that Ice warding rings, freeze, eshield, etc which were useless before now have some usefulness.
Who knows, maybe someday we will have a zone without idols and Spring of Life will be essential. Never know.

Re: Why don't we sell end game drops?
#9The reason to me is simple. If everything in the game could be bought, what is the point of joining a good clan like resurgence? I simply make offers that people cannot resist to buy dl drops and get full dl gear without efforts. Then, CH becomes a game for the rich kids. And people will not need to observe rules and decent behaviours and can still get end game items. So, not allowing sale of end game items provide the moral fabric that keeps clan in unity and promotes teamwork and solidarity among clan members and encourages desirable in-game behvaiour. That to me is the most important reason why we should not allow selling of end game items.

#10And so your competition will not be able to overtake you at some point right? To me that seems like it would be one of the top priorities for keeping drops in my clan only. The reason to me is simple.
