Celtic Heroes and Philosophy - Cross-Toon Identity

All right heroes, time to put on your thinking caps!
Here's a common conversation I hear in the Arena:
-- Goober (lower-level): Why are you killing me? I didn't do anything to you. I've never even seen you before.
-- Smasher (high-ish level): You killed my alt the other day. Now you will pay.
Let's suppose that Smasher is lvl 150+, that Goober is starting to feel the power somewhere around lvl 80-90, and that Smasher's alternative toon (call it Thrasher) is lvl 50-60 or so. (That's close the the typical scenario I see.) Let's also suppose that the irl controller of Smasher and Thrasher is a person named Asher. (Creative, right?)
Here's the debate: Goober typically insists that Smasher shouldn't be retaliating, it's an issue between Thrasher and Goober; Smasher replies, to the contrary, that killing Thrasher is akin to killing Smasher and so there is an issue between Goober and Smasher. Now let's set aside, for the moment, the ethics of retaliation. Question for all of you: is it true that when Goober killed Thrasher (the low-lvl alt), Goober *in effect* killed Smasher?
Here's why this matters: If killing Thrasher *is* akin to killing Smasher, then Smasher is not *initiating* a fight with Goober -- Smasher might be finishing the fight, but s/he's not starting it. But if killing Thrasher is *not* akin to killing Smasher, then Smasher is starting a fight with Goober (and we might think that higher levels starting fights with lower levels is just in poor taste, a kind of bullying).
Here are some considerations, for and against, to get the conversation started.
The "YES" Stance: Yes, killing Thrasher is akin to killing Smasher. Because Thrasher and Smasher are controlled by the same irl person, Asher. Since killing Thrasher is killing Asher's toon, and Smasher is also Asher's toon, killing Thrasher is akin to killing Smasher.
The "NO" Stance: No, killing Thrasher is NOT akin to killing Smasher. Because killing a low-level and not like killing a high-level (for example, one is easy to do and the other is hard to do). And besides, it doesn't *matter* that Asher controls both toons irl. If someone dents my old junker car sitting in my driveway, that's not akin to denting my brand-new super-fine sports car, even though I control both of those cars -- for example, no insurance company treats them as the same.
