So as you can read on gwydion forums, there has been as of late a scammer going around scamming mounts off people. This scammer is asking for staffs and copying names with l's and instead using a capital i. I've seen IP bans before, but why has there been no action taken? I mean its not hard right? Has this happened to your world recently? Cause in ours someone was just scammed a 100/50 staff, and banning the fake account is enough. Please support, disable the account, take the mount and return it through mail to the owner. It has happened before, and it shouldn't take long to change the look of capital i's right?

No duh, that's not the point of this topic now is it? It's why isn't there more IP banning? It's been done before.

The person told me they were distracted on a mob, and was asked to lend during, so they didnt think twice and just gave cause they were busy.

Your friends also will never get their crap back unfortunately because otm is also too lazy to investigate and return stolen items. They say all trades are final so unfortunately no items will be returned, and likely no scammers will be banned. They'll always come back and otm doesnt care enough to deal with it

He was given back the staff by someone in game. Some others may not have the luck he had.

I may have said this before but - we do our best to track down ALL accounts related to scammers that are reported to us however players do need to take some responsibility in who they trade with and what they are trading.

I have suggested to the developers about some sort of lending system that hopefully can be added in the future but for now, please be careful who you are lending items out to, as this is considered as a trade.

It's an excuse. Beyond ip banning they can also device ban.

Moreover they can delete accounts. What's gonna hurt the scammer the most is to device and ip correlate every account they have ever logged and delete all of them. But they basically never do this.

Not that I would want to be OTM they would need a full time empolyee just to keep on top of things.

We can't ip ban due to apples rules of not tracking ips, we do however ban devices if a warning is not enough.

Usually, if there is evidence of a 'scammer' acting once - a warning is given and their character used for scamming is deleted if needed (i.e the 'fake' level 1's).
If there is evidence of this happened over multiple accounts with multiple characters and multiple attempts to scam other players, then we usually disable the account(s) and any device(s) attached to these account(s).

As you mentioned though, this process can be very long, people can slip under the radar and this is why we need players to report players.
