Possibly Controversial Opinion

So every time OTM releases a new kind of chest, some people complain that the event is too plat-oriented, and non-platters are left in the dust.

I think that event chests are actually great for non-platters. Here's why.

When people open chests, what ends up happening is a ton of plat items circulating the world server. This means that you could very likely see hundreds of thousands of idols and restos, tens of thousands of elixirs, and tens of thousands of sigil boxes gained every few weeks or so from people opening chests (just my rough estimates).

Basic supply and demand dictates that when the supply exceeds the demand of certain goods (in this case plat items), prices fall. Since people open lots and lots of chests, the average price of plat items has been going down—by a lot. This doesn't apply for the event chests themselves—the price of those remains fairly high because of the chance to get rare items.

If I remember correctly, these were the approximate plat item prices on Arawn two years ago, before the very first chests were released. Note that some of these prices may be slightly incorrect because this was so long ago, but you get the general idea.
  • Idols: 200-300g each
  • Restos: 250-300g each
  • Backpacks/banks: non-tradable
  • Sigils: non-tradable
  • Super health/energy/travel/wisdom elixirs: no one bothered to buy/sell them
  • Super haste elixirs: 2k each (but these were rarely ever sold)
  • Super knowledge elixirs: 4-5k each
  • Super combo elixirs: 8-10k each
Here are the rough prices in Arawn right now.
  • Idols: 50-100g each
  • Restos: 100-150g each
  • Backpacks/banks: 1k each or less
  • Sigils: 5k each box
  • Heroic health/energy/travel/wisdom elixirs: 500g each
  • Heroic haste elixirs: 1.5k each
  • Super knowledge elixirs: 3-4k each (depending on who you buy from and whether in bulk or not)
  • Super combo elixirs: 7-8k each (same thing)
It isn't too hard to spot the change. Not only do non-platters have access to previously non tradable plat items, prices on all plat items in general have dropped due to a massive overflow. The new heroic armor, attack, defense elixirs are becoming cheap as well.

Going back to what I was saying earlier: while event chests are definitely for CH plat buyers, having them available decreases plat item prices enormously for the non-platters.

That's why I think chests are good for non-platters.

Feel free to agree/disagree, and explain if you want. To clarify, this isn't an idea/suggestion; it's just an observation. I'm not saying there should be more chests, I'm just saying the impact of chests has been beneficial for non-platters.

I agree in some instances. However, I haven't really noticed plat prices changing in Lugh. The only things that are selling are backpack expansions, bank expansions etc.. This is because people want to keep things like sigils because the more, the better.

But yes, they have helped the non-platinum buyers in some ways! :)

Prices of sk on herne were 5k and sc was going for 10-12k per a week before the chests. Dropped to 3k for sk and 8k norm for sc a day after the chests. People save their plat for chests and won't buy sk in bundle unless it's for themselves specifically. Heck, no one buys sc from the plat store unless they use it to lvl themselves. Selling 125 sc 8k per is only 1 mil gold. Can easily sell alt books for 1.6 mil gold at 4k each. Chests keep all platinum items in circulation and I don't mind that.

However, the chance of receiving a mount should be increased. It was HUGE with maybe 200 staffs in summer 2013 and now there's only like 10 players with gliders per server come 2014

Those really arent the prices right now.
Xps are being sold for 5k. Combos 9-10k. Hp sigil crates 10k if your lucky. Idols barely sold by plat buyers anymore because they are stocking up for idol nerf. Restos at least 200g. Hastes 3k if someone is even selling any.
If you see anyone selling them at the prices you listed please direct them to me, i will buy.

I understand the theory you are working with, but things are just getting more expensive.

Those prices… well someone is trying to rip you off. :(

I think if you hang out in the castle long enough, you should at least find normal prices (4k/8k/150g/2k per) on those items you stated.

I agree completly, and I always have. I have never bought plat but now I have access to sigils, backpack expansions and, etc. When these chests were first added I was extremely excited. I try to buy elix around a double plat sale, and I have a substantial amount of sigils on my mage and rogue both. My mage became much more playable once I obtained around 1k energy sigils. I would go so far to say I would never play a mage now without at least 1k e sigs. ;)

Not really a controversial opinion, its a fact.

If no one bought plat no one would have platinum items. If a few people bought plat (before chests came out) a few people would have the luxury of plat items.

According to this logic, the more plat buyers there are on your server, the more abundant plat resources you will find. Chests are helping this cause as people always like to gamble and go for that 2m, mount, etc

Gwydion is an extremely overpriced server.
