Wasn't Destiny supposed to eliminate need for Apple reloads?

Maybe i remember the press releases incorrectly, but I thought Destiny originally was going to include the ability to NOT have to go back to Apple and have them review to put it back in the store updated all the time. Is this still happening? or is every upgrade (besides events) still going to have to go back to Apple?

grats on getting update down.. no chance to look at it though.

It gave OTM the ability to add more functionality to the game without having to get Apple's approval. But there are still some things that Apple needs to approve.

Big game changers will always require an app-store update, always. As bitey said the only thing destiny did was freshen up the game's looks and give the producers more flexibility in terms of what they can do with the game and the difficulty of doing it decreased. This means faster updates(supposedly). We haven't experienced much of destiny yet so give it some time.

i wasn't expecting this to be a part of it, i just wasn't sure what benefits we were suppose to be seeing. i can see engine changes, but would expect most everything else to be quick addition, hopefully without resetting the game every time you need to insert a new item or whatever.

Apple will not allow developers to change code that is run on the device. They can only patch data files.

Large updates will always require apple submissions, some smaller content updates can be patched in but changes to zones, UI, etc. require an App update.

Otherworld was completely retextured with a patch in update 3. How is that any different than patching in a new area?

Unity scenes are different to levels in the old engine. Previously we could patch in single textures where as now they're baked into the scene file requiring the whole zone to be patched. It's not that we couldn't do it but if we start patching zones the patch files become way too big and will put loads of people off downloading the game, so for now we're doing updates whenever we've got massive environment changes.

Makes sense.
