I have been using 3 mighty scholar rings and 1 majestic scholar ring, bring my total scholar skill to 4050. I would think that having this many points I would get it to happen more often, after numerous groups, I notice that on average others proc 2x more than me, and they are not equipped with these rings and we are within 7 levels of each other. What is the point of these rings when it is apparent I do not reap any benefit. They don't add to the Xp and they don't add to happening more often.
I have also equipped 4 mighty rings of skill and using my skills every time they are ready, I get equal the amount of crits with my skill as others. The same goes for weapon ability crit rings. I have been using these rings from level 115 to 156 solo and grouped. The treasure rings don't do anything either, in fact with those not equipped I have had more procs within a two hour time frame. And I was using 2 700 majestic treasure rings and 2 mighty 600 treasure rings. Nothing nada zip. And of course I have all the skills quest completed and most of them are close to max for my level.
The only rings that do work are the angler power rings for fishing, and of course the concentration rings add more concentration.
Is this a known issue? I wrote down the numbers equipped and not equipped for a various combination of rings leveling and farming for a three month period. and the numbers play out for soloing I crit A few more time with the rings equipped,( about 10 more times in a nonstop hour of farming or leveling, making the crit rings not very useful). treasure is exactly the same, scholar is exactly the same number of procs equipped or unequiped.
Thinking in combat terms, suppose two equal level and skilled rogues were to duel, they both have a dagger that does the same damage, yet one dagger has 2500 dagger ability points on it. The rogue without the ability points would win 95% of the time. That is pretty much my experience with these fishing rings.
Re: Rings from fishing
#2I dont use these sort of rings, but i have my crit skills maxed (warrior) and i tried mashing the wolf in lirs for a while with a rogue (also max). He didnt use a haste ring to get our attack speeds the same, and he critted almot twice as much with his skills.

Re: Rings from fishing
#3Really? Did he have the crit rings on? I have noticed a little difference with the crit rings on, as from my post, but nothing that great and that's with 2400 ability points added all for weapon crits with 4 600 rings and add another 1560 at my base ability, same went for skill crits, about ten more on average crits per hour. Scholarly and gold have been the same for me reguardless if I have the rings on or not.
Re: Rings from fishing
#4TBH me and my friend noticed this too, when he had Grand/Grand/Greater scholar rings on it seemed like my experience crit a lot more

Re: Rings from fishing
#5A lot more often? Or a lot more xp? Grouping with same levels the xp has always been the same in my experience as I can see my groups crit for xp. I just finished a group with my ability at 4050 in scholar and my friend with a ability of 1570, and we crit the same amount of xp. I crit 3 more times than he did in an hour. It seems with such a high amount of scholar ability over double his, I should had at least doubled the amount of crits. He proced for xp crit 8x I did 11x but he was beating me till the last few mobs we hit before we broke the group.
Re: Rings from fishing
#6After reviewing my critical strike rings for skills, I tried it again and began to crit 22x in 15 minutes, and only 10 x without any rings at all, using the skills. It seems like it does a fair amount of procing but only with the 600 rings equipped in all 4 slots it gave a noticeable difference but was unpredictable and would crit mostly in my lower level skills, and pet. But as far as the xp and gold rings go, I am not convinced that they add anything at all.
Re: Rings from fishing
#7Maybe how many times one crits on different things can be added to the leaerboards.
How many hats?

Re: Rings from fishing
#8I say you have a controlled test with and without the rings; 300 kills with each set up on the same mobs that provide you some xp. I've been doing a lot of debunking for my clan in the arena and it seems there is a large reliance on personal correlation between stats and effects. Numbers in large quantities don't lie though.
Get the proportion of which you get double the experience for both tests and post them here. I can't imagine there'd be too high of a difference but with such a boost, there should be some.
Edit: If you really want to get to the bottom of this, I suggest 500 kills with each set up. If there is no statistical significance between the two proportions, then there is either no effect (which I doubt, though I have not personally seen confirmation from OTM of the ability's effects) or the effects are so miniscule that they are negligible.

#9Yes I did this but since I have leveled a bit, I am going to redo the test, dropping my skill stats down to 1 ( it shouldn't matter if I use rend shadow strike, quick strike, double attack at level 1 since rend always crits at level 1 anyway). for the skill crits in the first test, and the ability crits I am going to go with the shoreline dagger with my stats reset, prob go after the sewer crawlers as they have a lot of hit points if I am only hitting for 20.
For the gold it just requires a kill, so I will hit up a bunch of low level mobs keeping count how many I kill.
Xp rate I will search for some xp mobs prob in other world area and keep track of how many I kill.
I have seen a difference with the ability and skill crits but even still it wasn't that impressive, but I should have the numbers in a week or so. I also tried it in the arena with another hitting the next gladiator next to me, with just ability crit rings on I was barely ahead of my neighbor although he was 50 levels ahead of me, I still had over twice his ability points on weapon crits. But the arena is different in that I noticed some things don't work as well in there compared to the rest of the zones, so I am skeptical of using those arena stats.
The xp rate seems negitable but i should have some accurate numbers on that.
If you are on morrigan I have a bunch of 500 ability and skill crit rings that we can try it to see if we get similar results, if you are not on morrigan we can make a low level toon and go to town in heroes landing for results, although we would have to complete the quests for the abilities, the gold and xp abilities can be problematic since those mobs don't spawn frequently enough. It would give me another result, with 4 500 rings it would technically be level 200 in that ability.

Re: Rings from fishing
#10The effects of higher ability for higher chance to "proc" on crit/scholar isn't really huge. Maybe you'll see a small percentage increase like up to 5% which really can't be measured accurately, but it's certainly nothing as obvious as 2x or 3x more than usual.
