Pokémon apples and Chests

#1
Chest drop rates has been something players have had an issue with for a while now, and I'd just like to provide a simple comparison to try and help us see it in a different light

It's like when we were kids and you'd buy a pack of Pokémon apples. You never knew what you'd get, maybe there'd be a fekkin badass Mewto or maybe a bunch of plain ASS Rattatas. You never knew, but you bought the pack anyway cos of the chance of that cool apple, and you didn't cry to Nintendo when the apples you got were total unfathomable.

For those of you who weren't around when Pokémon apples were the unfathomable you've just gotta understand that this type of sales model has been around ages. Before Pokémon there were baseball apples in America, and it was the same system.

Chests are a modern Pokémon apple pack. You pay, you hope for the best, and you take what you get and make the best of it.

Back in the day if you had some trash apples you'd barter and trade with your friends for something you wanted. It's the same in the game. You get a ton of sigils (which are useful if you appreciate them) or red fash and you don't want it then you find someone to buy it or you merch.

Now, I'm not saying that we shouldn't offer input to OTM for things we would like to happen, go ahead and ask away for drop rates to be raised. But demanding things isn't the way to go.

As we've seen already, OTM does listen to us players. We got Fishing, free mounts, trading up Bounty Tokens, Cooking, more fash, they brought back OLD fash AND lux items AND mounts, they've updated areas we asked them to update, they've given us an extremely easy road to 140, and their employees actually interact with us with more than just cookie cutter responses.

So yup. Pokémon apples and chests. Happy New Year all

Lol Pokémon apples are good example believe it or not. What the neighborhood kids (including me lol) would do is get together all of the Pokémon apples they gained from these packs and they would battle with them (like Yugioh apples). Some had better decks than others because they got more lucky... but no one ever complained, they simply said, “whoa man you’re so lucky”. Wasn’t just kids that did this... Adults too lmao. But ofc, this was back when the public was so much more chill and drama was rare. 2018 is gonna be a unfathomable year, I can already tell

Thing is Pokemon apples Have Had An Actual Worth In Life Once You Obtained One or Some Of Those Rare apples.
Their Worth In Life Is To Show Off Or Battle Your Friends. The Worth Of Chest Rewards Is To Show Off Or Improve Your Character. Both Pokémon apples And Items In The Game Will Be Worthless When You 1- Outgrow Them or 2- The Game Gets Shut Down.

Saying Spending Money On A Game Isn't "Real Life" Is Silly. So Is Typing Like This.

I'm curious to see how gambling laws may impact mystery boxes in games. As it stands in the UK right now, the lack of real world value is what prevents it being legislated.

That is interesting. But it would be silly to ban the sale of mystery boxes seeing as Pokémon apples are still being sold and they are essentially the same type of gamble.

Hopefully they only crack down on betting machines and not these types of models.

Please don’t compare my beloved baseball apples to this pseudo gambling setup that Is in place. Since I started collecting baseball apples in 1988 you had always been able to purchase a “complete set”, this was a preboxed sealed set of the apples. In a complete set you get exactly 1 of each apple regardless of how rare they are. It wasn’t until the last 15-20 Years that the special insert apples were introduced such as signature apples, most pure collectors don’t mess with those as they are just worthless bling in the long run. Any apple of value over time is obtainable in the complete set. Usually the apple that is of greatest value is the rookie apple of a hall of fame player and those apples are included in the factory complete sets I have.

As for the chests, somewhere around 5 years ago OTM decided that mounts, which were the most expensive part of each event, would be moved from the store to the chests. Until then you could purchase the best items of the event without chance. Now it’s a crap shoot

Yea, I remember the Dragonstaffs..

Apologies, I've not been around long enough to have bought any kind of apple packs where you know what you're getting. The baseball and football apples I had collected as a kid were always random packs. Wish I'd been around to get the ones where you knew what you were getting, instead of just a general idea.
