Re: Question for druids from a mage :D

I agree with what has been said already, but I will continue on a few concepts as well. I will also mention that I haven't used Roots since I was level 30... which was back in March or so (Update 2)... I just stopped seeing a use for it.

First off, Update 2 and 3 are completely different animals, when it comes to the game. In Update 2, a Druid only had three ways to attack: Lightning, Vines, and Melee. Now we have Storm. Since Storm's cast distance is melee range, it is not really effective to use Root. Sure, you could run in for Storm, and run away, but you may as well be bashing and stabbing at the mob as well.

This comes to the next point, that offhand weapons (mainhand as well, for that matter) were greatly expanded in this update. Now with the damage on tridents and swords, DPS Druids are right next to the mob. For DPS Druids, it is essential to smack and stab as well as use skills.

As for skills, Druids now also have Wards which can be used to lower the effectiveness of mob attacks. Having a high Ward against the mobs you are fighting, for instance, makes a world of difference. If you are taking less damage anyway, you may as well be doing melee damage. Wind was also made more effective (was useless in Update 2) so less damage is taken.

The above is all related to DPS Druids, but even grouping has no real use for Roots, IMO. The only pairing that it might be useful for is a Mage/Druid combo (which is probably why the answer wasn't so clear to you). I don't know any Rangers who don't have Bolas up to their fighting level, so Roots would be moot in any group with a Ranger. Bolas can also be re-cast before the effect wears off. Warriors should be able to keep aggro, and need to be next to the mob anyway. A Druid/Rogue pair would see Roots as pointless as well, because Rogues are also short distance. So Druid/Mage is the only plausible pairing... but even still, if damage offhands are being used, both will be up close and personal with the mob anyway.

The other issue is the Ancient statue abilities that were introduced with Update 3. I've been trying to get mine maxed (it's a long road) but for some of the abilities to be raised, you need to be fighting short distance. All in all... I haven't had Roots in my hotbar for months.

Good luck with your Druid. If you haven't played him/her in a while, you will have a bit of a learning curve... but you should be fine with your Mage experience.

As having a druid I used lightning strike to lvl 6o and then i bought rebirth adn alt book to make me a complete healer. But druids are here to heal not to sit there and try killing mobs or rooting mobs with doing almost no damage
