I am finding that if I am hunting with a group, chances are very, very good that if anything drops, I get it. Is this normal? I'm trying to determine what etiquette demands. For example:

Someone kills one of the 5 star bounty hunters. I happen to be standing nearby (thinking about eventually attacking the same critter but waiting for mana; I am not grouped with him) and get the drop. He demands the item. Do I hand it over? (I did.)

I am recruited to help kill one of the undead critters for shadow equipment. Per usual, I get the drop. Random person who manages to join the group midway through the fight demands I hand the drop over to him after finishing the quest with the NPC. Is this normal? (I didn't -- he wouldnt explain why he wanted it. Just I want. I want.)

I help some newbies kill some spell casters that drop stones. I get the first six. At this point do I leave the group? Do I hand them out?

Or am I just uninformed and everyone gets the drop?

If you are not grouped with the person who killed, or you yourself don't get kill, you will not get the drop. Standing close by means nothing.

Drop etiquette really depends on the group and the mobs you are killing. You mentioned the shadow armor guy.. If you don't have or aren't doing the quest, then you do not need the shard he drops, give it to someone in group who does. It is useless for anything else.

It all really depends on the situation...

If you are invited to a group to help you are in no regards to give up drop as long as you are contributing to the fight. If you are just standing there doing nothing looking pretty (or ugly whichever the case) then the others in group may get upset at you. But also you may get those who beg or demand everything that drops. I personally don't group them.

I healed him, as I stood by and watched him steal the kill I was waiting for. Maybe that was enough. Or maybe my group member fired off an arrow or two. Never can trust those needlers... :-)

Also, is there some bonus for Druids and drops? I really don't know why I get so many. It is beyond random chance.

It's completely random as far as who gets the drop/drops. You might just be really lucky. You'll find out one day you'll get a drop from every boss you do where as the next day you may not get a single one. As far as giving up the drop, well if you did your job in the group and the drop goes to you its yours to do what you want with. If you don't need it then you could hand off to someone else if they do or sell it. Some clans though will ask that you give rarer drops to the chief or clan bank to help out the clan but then they'll probably help you out with your stuff as well.
