So I just had a question of whether someone has tried out a build I am thinking of. Right now I have the 500k staff ( the one mil would be better but I'm not that rich) with the 500 evasions. I am thinking of going full spiritshadow not for the focus bonus so much as for the evasions bonuses. My problem is that when group levelling i get murdered before someone is able to kill the mob that is attacking me. To alleviate this problem i was thinking of maxing out the evasions for the skill attacks; however this still leaves me open to melee. So was going to try a build that had some more dex in it. To hopefully dodge/parry and evade more attacks.
My worry is that using the dex points will take away from my capacity to heal. And this is why I was wondering f anyone has tried any builds that use dex.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated
Re: Dex question
#2I played around with this in beta, using high dex , howling wind, and a dex offhand (dagger of slaying?). It actually worked quite well except for skills hitting me. Even bless didn't help out enough to compensate for making this a good build. I was using full dl, and not the staff because it wasn't available. so in conclusion, I found it to be awesome for autos not hitting me, but skills still destroyed me.
Re: Dex question
#3Instead of dex why not use abundance or bark. Both are great skills in letting you AND your group survive longer.

Re: Dex question
#4Wind is a good spell to utilize if you want to nullify autos (maybe also add some dex and def stuff) which impacts the whole group, not just you.
Re: Dex question
#5Dex is great, definitely worth it if you're going to combine it with wind you'll hardly get hit.

#6I agree, that's what its forInstead of dex why not use abundance or bark. Both are great skills in letting you AND your group survive longer.
Re: Dex question
#7Some dex is good. Missing a few autos could make the difference between life or death when your getting attacked by an add and your waiting for some help. I think 100-200 dex would be sufficient. Honestly with my testing of howling wind it is a good skill but only if you put a lot of skill points in it and from my experience most bosses have such high attack that it makes minimal difference on bosses. It would be better to put points in bark and it lasts a minute longer than wind which means less casting. Hope this helps.

Re: Dex question
#8I'm working on a howling winds build wondering how much dex will be enough, 150-200.

Re: Dex question
#9Evasions are really crappy IMO. With a maxed lv Bless along with the related evasion bonuses from various gear, I still get hit frequently from a fellow mage when testing it out in PVP. (I think I had ... 1k evasion + ??) You are better off using other gear apart from spiritshadow. The 15 focus per set is neglectable. So I just had a question of whether someone has tried out a build I am thinking of. As pointed out by rest, there are a couple of ways to prolong yr survivability:
1) Howling wind - Best defensive skill. Cons - You need dex (100 and above) to feel the dodge differences, may not be ideal for group levelling as mobs should be killed very fast for effective levelling
2) Bark & Abundance - If you can spare the skill points, just there 2 skills together should be sufficient to keep yourself alive till the mob is down.
3) Calm - If you can spare one skill slot, try a lv 1 calm when mobs are on to you. It usually works unless yr heal has a bigger aggro than yr levelling grp.
4) Just like properties, it is all about location, location, location!!! Remember where the mobs spawn and position yourself away from that spot.

#10even with 2k physical evasion u will barely avoid anything (when tested enduring guard pre update + fortitude over 1k, the bonus was another 1k not maxed so 2k evasion barely helped)Evasions are really crappy IMO. but if u max all abilities, which is at ur lvl will give u 1820 of each evasion, u will see that it can help, and extra evasion from gear such as dl, when i see tanks around lvl 190 with maxed warding + evasions brace, it usually screws up mages
