Re: Druid as a Tank?

Or calm ;)
Also pyro is lava golem boss in ow
Calm is one of those weird skills. A single point in it is sufficient to keep a creature off the caster. However, even with a royal calm ring and a calm bonus helmet, the success rate of the skill working on someone else is quite low. If I were to guess I'd say around 8-10 pts in it were needed for bossing to be semi-successful. This seems to be the consensus on the forum also (in my opinion of course).

I thought the OP meant pyro as a player character not pyrus the frozen boss in OW.

ahah thanks all for the replies...

@Zyz: if you're the Zyz of Fingal, we played together... i was Pyro Maniac, and you were in RESISTANCE with Underblue... maybe you remember the guy who has never been in a clan.. refusing all invitation from Resistance, Savages and so..

@Cross: recasting bark will not be a problem at all with the gear i own i can ;)
i know warrior is better at tank ahaha thank you i'm not so noob, but i like doing strange things that usually people don't understand and i'm familiar with that ahaha
Oh yeah... Hey dude. How are ya?

Good luck on your tanking adventures. I've gone through my wanting to tank phase and most certainly don't mind tanking. I'm winds build with a high defense and around 4k in HP. Some observations -

I have to strike first with winds. If I don't hit first, I am probably not going to get aggro. If I lose aggro, it's very difficult to get it back. Even with 40 pts in winds and 800 Def, my recast of bark gets interrupted a lot. I typically don't have any issues with touch getting interrupted so I can keep healing myself no problem. As soon as a rogue shadows trikes, I lose aggro.

@ Zyz: i'm doing cool! :) really happy to meet ya again.. now don't wanna make an OT then i swap to the build question: i can recast bark easily, but i'll try a tank build mixing dex and one without using it and i think i'm gonna find the right one :D

@Cross: and he's right! :D ahaha

holding aggro is always going to be a challenge. If you are going to tank (with a 180-190 level druid), I would suggest putting about 300 points in dex, to get you about 1000 defense, enough in vit to get you a good amount of hp, and the rest in focus. Spiritseed is in my opinion the best to use for soloing because it gives you dexterity to put into your build.

Use howling wind, so your skills don't get interrupted and you avoid auto damage. To hold aggro, use high aggro skills such as bark and vines. Bless is key to have too, and also maxing your evasion skills. I have found that I can successfully tank when getting auto attack hits, but get destroyed by skills. Since druids have low armor compared to warriors, avoiding all the attacks you can is key.

If you are able to, I like to keep roots on hand too in case you need to step back and take a sigil break. Otherwise, you will need to use lix and pots to keep up your energy. no energy means no aggro, which means no tanking.

thanks for the heads up on the dex. trying to remember my build from memory and I must have forgotten a direct defnse boost from spiritseed :D
bark gets you a ton of aggro, but embrace not a lot. In a boss fight it will pull adds off your tank and onto you if the adds haven't been touched. but I haven't heard of it keeping aggro. I'm not saying it doesn't, I just haven't seen it. It's also worth noting that if you are getting hit, bark is hard to cast because it gets interrupted easily. dex/hw prevents that though.

Lol creepshow. Im a confused druid myself. I found a pretty good tank setup though that might work for you. It lets me solo most bosses and I can tank if there's another healer around to help for when I can't pull a heal.

Here's my setup.

Lvl 155
Equipment:
Full frozen
Comrak spiritseed set
Comrak rings that provide Dex or def
(Or if your soloing two of the new spider rings that give lightning bonus...turns out they stack.)
Shield of the ravager (150 lux shield with dmg aura)
Frozen totem (obviously optional)
1 evasion bracelet from lux vendor(about to buy a second)

Skills:

Bark 35/35
Giant ward 22/35
Natures touch 35/35 (plus while bossing I use a +5 and +6 spider touch ring. Solo I use 2 lightning rings)
Lightning strike 35/35
Winds 30/35
Vines 25/35

Base stats:
Str 5
Dex 100
Focus 375
Vit 315

I also have maxed warding and over 1k in the other evasion abilities.
