The description of Howling Wind level 1 says it lowers the enemy's attack by -66, and for level 2 it lowers the enemy's attack by -62.
To me, that seems like level 2 is worse than level 1. Am I misunderstanding how it works?
Another interpretation, I suppose, would be that "lowering by a negative number" actually increases their attack, and only when my HW level has reached the point where I'm reducing their attack by a positive number, is the skill actually beneficial.
Or is this simply due to my particular combination of Focus and Nature Magic levels? The numbers above are at 140 Focus / 462 Nature Magic.
Has anybody put points into HW? How do the numbers progress? I'd like to use it to avoid being interrupted when soloing - is it ever viable for that?
Re: Howling Wind upgrade seems like a downgrade
#2I agree! I really want to upgrade howling wind but I don't understand how it works and don't want an upgrade that is a downgrade

#3Well, not many druids I see every use it except noobs. Dont think it's very effective anyways. Is a tad bit confusing on the upgrading though so i agree.

#4Hello MotherNature here,
I agree that howling wind does not do much and it's a skill that usually goes unused. Used to when you read the description of the skill it would say "reduces selected monsters attack by 145" now it has changed and I don't understand what they mean. But here is a tip. Do not upgrade this skill.... It's not even worth the skill point used. Some may disagree but this is just my opinion.

Re: Howling Wind upgrade seems like a downgrade
#5In beta I suggested it be removed from the game.
Personally I would report this in bugs... The fact is for a skill to be THIS bad, it needs to at the very least work correctly.
In a really funny beta bug in like Build 7 (there were 21 builds) Wind used to increase opponents attack, and you were actually buffing yer enemies rather than debuffing them. Took Teef, the rogue and me a while to figure that out, but he ended up checking his attack Pre-spell and after spell to see the changes. They fixed that bug, but it could be a new sort of bug effecting the spell that needs to be rechecked.

Re: Howling Wind upgrade seems like a downgrade
#6I was using it to help reduce damage while solo leveling, but I have seen little difference. I have been wondering if it is worth the energy to cast it and the time taken away from giving damage.
For the record this is the second worst spell. Spring of Life is the worst spell.

Re: Howling Wind upgrade seems like a downgrade
#7I agree with tea that it needs to be removed, but i want to go further than that. Remove the spell, and replace it with a buff that increases attack on a friendly target. Now that's a spell I would put points in

Yer misunderstanding the spell. It will never decrease DMG, it will only decrease Attack, which decreases the chances of something hitting you relative to your defense. So potentially it would decrease your interupts.
I use Spring of Life roughly 4x a hour. So lol I simply don't agree with that.
