I personally don't use it because it takes lots of skill points to make it effective at higher levels, and as a full support druid, all skill points are in natures touch, natures embrace, shield of bark, and abundance. I really don't have room for another skill except natures breath.

From my experience I will tell you now that it is not worth it. The max points for your level will make the energy consumption is huge! It is bugged so when you cast a root on a mob even a level 1, but with bolas along with the debuff on the same mob, it still moves as if grasping roots does not affect it. Also, it is not the same as bolas, or else it would be overpowered, which is understandable. Another reason is the cast time, and the spell duration. The spell stays on the mob a second less than the cast time, so it gives a mob a good second to melee or even use skill on you and destroy you. If you know what I am talking about or not, try it yourself. For it to be even a little effective, you have to recast it exactly when the spell is completely cooled down, but it still gives the mob a whole second to demolish you. Maybe two ticks of sigils work, but that is it. It is slow for leveling.
I level at golems with amazing gear, full frozen with a dark book, I still get killed. I try using full spiritshadow to help me and switch to full frozen, still no. The good thing for it is that if you level with a group of rangers, only you are touched by melee or skill in the beginning if they don't use bolas. This grasping roots method of leveling only works if you have a camo charm, or else you will be destroyed the second you cast it on a new mob. That time is crucial when you first cast it. It determines whether you will kill the mob or not. As of now, without dexterity, a lot of dexterity, your grasping roots will be interrupted 9/10, no joke. Try it yourself, I mean with a druid since you are a mage after all. Druid attack skills get evaded too much, which is my experience which makes leveling slower. Any other question? Demonstration if you are willing to level in Taranis to 60+. Or a high level druid in your world can show you how difficult leveling with grasping roots without camo is.

If you are just within cast range and recast just as the cooldown finishes, it will be rerooted just before it gets to you. But I agree, it isn't worth it. As a rule of thumb druids need nature touch. Depending on level, you only have enough points to max 3-5 skills. As a support druid embrace, bark, group heal, abundance, and wards are much more useful. As a solo Druid those skill points are used in lightning, storm touch, vines, and maybe howling wind or buffs. If you choose this route, howling wind gets the job done just fine and you can go a whole minute without getting hit by a melee attack. There are too many other useful skills to use, making roots obselete. It also doesn't help that it is evaded often and is essentially a crappy version of bolas.

K ! Thxvm for ur answers
I have a druid 87 and i used this skill before update for solo

Root + lightning + vines + embrace + bark was a rock build
If druid evad attack skills on mobs it s because they dont do it a lot of time so the ability for that isnt good
Us mage have a weakening attack evasion on frozen which help a lot too imo
Well , this skill will stay 1/25 then lol

Glad I could help (speaking for royal seraphim and alpha393 as well). You mentioned evasions in your reply but I'm not sure if you fully understand them. Evasions are a defensive skill that allow you to block enemy SKILL attacks, with the type of evasion corresponding to the type of skill used. For example, higher physical evasion allows for an increased chance at blocking a physical attack such as pummel.

i had roots around lvl 132, worked decent with 200 energy sigils. only problem was that it avoids too much for multiple star mobs and that the recasting indeed takes a good timing, then still it can easily go wrong. the idea of working with either a ranger or mage like this is interesting and might work, i forgot to try that out. if you do it well i suppose it would work, but i doubt it would be much easier then being a support druid and just keeping someone alive.

I tried it for a day. It worked but did nothing for me.
It was easier to use my fire cloak and just keep healing.
I have not tried any freeze builds since I have been to lazy to check my alts for the correct pages. I am sure I will find the same thing.
I am thinking freeze might be fun to torment people in pvp lol

i heard freeze is actually quite powerfull. roots is just too messed up to be usefull right now (in energy cost, cooldown, time it lasts, etc).

Roots is a lot less effective since update it gets evaded a ton and you need it maxed to be usefull so it's better to use the skill points on buffs heals or damage spells
