Hi nanocore,
Welcome to the Noble Class.
As mentioned, an offhand isn't a necessity at your level. You do, however, want to start preparing for the future as mentioned.
Do you have a Totem/Totem skill yet? If not, you want to get that out of the way. You can politely ask a higher level to escort you to the Stone Farm (the Totem trainer is there) and start training your Totem skill. Try to get a Totem from another Druid... if not, buy the cheapest (about 2600).
You're first financial goal should be 20,000 gold. With that amount of gold you are able to view the luxury shop in the castle (you still won't be able to buy much there, but all you want is to view the items). Once you can view the items, you can see their stats and what they do.
One word of advice is to avoid buying anything at the vendors... lux shop included. Always try to buy from another player who is upgrading their own character. You don't need top gear at any given level (that's a desire)... what you need is gear that matches your level.
I'll give you a little example. At about level 60 I realized that I needed an energy rejuv necklace. I bought a silver ammy of energization (some armour, energy, and +10 energy regen) from another player for 30,000 gold (it is 50,000 in the lux shop) I used that until I was about level 105... at which point I realized that it wasn't keeping up with my needs. I sold it for 35,000 gold (got lucky as the person really wanted to buy) and bought a Golden ammy of rejuv (armour, health energy, +15 energy/health per tick) for 100k from a player (150k in the shop).
Now since your question is about offhands, I will say that my first offhand was borrowed from a clanmate. It was a +10 energy per tick Golden Focus of energy. I used that for many many levels, until I gave it back and bought my own (bit better) focus that gave +10 to both energy and health. Again, I bought that from another player for 85k (150k in the shop)... I got lucky on that one too, as the person needed to sell. Since then I have upgraded to a Golden Bodkin of Spirits, which I still use. I bought it off a player for 90k (150k in the shop).
The point I am really trying to make is to learn what you need, it's retail value, and then try to find that from another player.
As for making the gold you will need, the biggest thing I can suggest (aside from normal training/vendoring) is picking up any green presents you run by, and every mushroom you see in Shale and eventually Stone. You can sell presents and fettlecaps to players, and other mushrooms to the vendor. Here is a thread where I tried to give some advice to someone trying to make gold:

Good luck.
Oh, what world do you play on? If you play on Herne, I might have some items that can help out.
