I am using a golden blade of magic with haste gloves and no mainhand. I am wondering if i should equip diamond icon for main hand or not. Which is better dps?

Empty mainhand is better than diamond totem for dps. But, if you are a druid using H2H, you are doing it wrong. True dps lies in spells, not melee...

Testing on a person has the variable of missing different amounts so the only sure way is to use the formula

why would a totem cost money if a fist could do more damage than it?

The real dmg comes from your offhand. Totem is much slower than bare hands. Bare hands allows you to swing your offhand faster, therefore more dps. That is, if you have h2h maxed or near max.

How many times did you test? Were all variables equal? Totem ability at same lvl as H2H ability? A single one minute test will not tell you anything, there are simply too many variables. Would need to conduct a lot of tests to try to weed out the variables. Go on mage forum and ask them, there are a lot of mages who use melee build and all use h2h over their wands...

Like i said, the real dmg comes from the elemental damage on the offhand, not your main hand. Faster speed means your offhand swings more often, therefore more dps.
