I duo with a mage and druid. My mage is way higher than my druid though, so my mage basically kills stuff its lvl(170) while my druid supports it(touch, embrace, abundant aura, shield of bark). Although if they were in the same lvl range i would go with firebolt, firestorm, fire attune at max on mage, with 3/4 the remaining points in fire lure and the other 1/4 in lure of magic. Leave the dps to the mage. Meanwhile the druid solves the mages survivability issue with touch, shield of bark, and embrace maxed. Also the remaining druid points can go in lighting strike to keep the dmg going when the mage attacks are cooling down. This is the dps way for fast lvling. You could also out the extra points and some bark points in grasping roots so that the mage doesnt die as easily from being attacked, but this slows down the overall team dps. Although i guess dos wise you could get rid of bark all together and use only touch, embrace, lightning strike ,and vines. Hope this helped, if not sorry.

Ur first suggestion is better then last if the mage has a lot of damage then dont use strangle vines just use lightning because of fast cast time and cool down
