In CH, two-handed weapons are the worse weapon any class can have (the stats done by a one-handed and offhand are MUCH better.. for all classes). Previous to the second expansion of ch (which released Stonevale and Shalemont), a Druid's only weapon was a staff, which is why the totem ability is not found with the others, and why there isn't a shoreline totem. Since that update (about 2 years ago) the totem has become much better than the staff: better stats, better dmg, better bonuses, and the quest staff was replaced with a totem for Warden, Meteoric, Frozen, and Dragonlord weapons.

The best use of a totem is to have an offhand, the best of which are found in the Luxary Shops. The effects of the offhand added to the speed and damage of the totem make it a MUCH better weapon than the staff, and for all cases. If totems were never introduced, then druids would never have had a weapon remotely worthy to solo with, and our class as a whole would be far more worse than we are now.

while i mostly agree with you, you could just go hand to hand and offhand a weapon or other offhand, in the case totems never existed.
