My druid has heroic ammy/boots/gloves, mighty shield of crowns, and white firestorm rod. Also using royal/grand/greater/lesser stinging swarm rings.
Stat build is my favorite 3:2 focus/vit ratio. Skills are max swarm, vines, and rest of points in roots and touch.
So far leveling is a piece of cake, 3* mobs are dying in 1-2 ticks and melee mobs can't hit me. Roots combined with great heals means my survivability is top.
But, with heroic lux at low levels, even a terrible setup can gain fast xp.
Has anyone else used a swarm/vines/root/touch build at higher levels (100+, 150+)? If so, how effective is it, with lix and/or without lix?

#2I dont recommend swarm rings since they require a TON of energy and dont do as much dmg as strangle, I think best build is Howling Wind buildMy druid has heroic ammy/boots/gloves, mighty shield of crowns, and white firestorm rod. Also using royal/grand/greater/lesser stinging swarm rings.

HW/Strangle/lightning/storm touch/ natures touch/ i recommend this because you should be meleeing with with axe or blade
Also roots is tedious to cast every time/ cooldown is slow while howling wind is faster
Also I wouldn't use xp lixes until 90+

Re: Leveling a druid
#3I realize that swarm does suck up a ton of energy, but the poison damage is amazing (because of rings). Like I said before, 3* mobs are dying in 1-2 ticks, which is comparable to my kill speed back when I was a level 30 rogue.
I need to use roots in order to allow my energy sigils to activate. I need energy sigils to activate to recover from swarm's huge energy cost. That's why I'm using vines and swarm—I can kill mobs quickly while also regaining energy quickly and standing out of harm's way.
If I used lightning strike and storm touch, my energy sigils would tick less.
Also, I only use roots on the tougher 3* or 4* mobs, so I'm not limited to 1 kill per 20 seconds.
Currently I am leveling my main again (170-180), so I may not be on my druid for a while.

Re: Leveling a druid
#4It will slow down as you get higher lvl. I use roots/vines/strike/swarm. One stars take about 2 ticks but vines and swarm need to be recast for 3* mobs.
Beware the chickens, they are duplicitous.
Re: Leveling a druid
#5I've found swarm to be more effective than vines in some areas/enemy lvls. I decided to do some solo xp in on the lvl 160 and 165 bogans (I'm lvl 161). With vines maxed and +5 and +4 vines rings on, I was doing as much dmg as swarm which had a lot less points in it. Even more sadly was I was doing more manage melee with my 150 cold dmg lux ax on a haste lix. The bogans also evaded a lot of my lightening strikes.
I've enjoyed a winds build since experimenting with different skills and build setups.
What I've found to be the most effective in terms of solo lvling at my lvl is winds, bark, wards, vines, swarm, axe, haste and xp lix. I even used embrace which I haven't done in a long time. However, I hate how often it has to be recast. Granted it was rarely interrupted, it still takes time away from doing dmg when having to cast.

Re: Leveling a druid
#7Hello
To answer your question, yes, roots is a viable build for solo druids all the way to endgame. In my opinion there are three solo builds for druids in my opinion that I'll cover briefly, then go a little in depth for you on a roots build.
Pure DPS
Max all your dps skills; strike, storms, vines, and swarm. Remaining points in bark and touch. Stat wise either 3:2 or 4:1. Get ready to spam restos but can kill semi quickly... For a druid... Better xp but expensive.
Winds build
Max winds, vines, strike, storms, and touch. Depending on available skill points decide between storms and touch for needed dps or heals. Stat point wise focus and vit are the main as per usual but you also need defence to help with winds. Unless you have gear to up your defence and/or dex you will want to consider dropping points from focus/vit to add to dex. Also with this build you can consider using a main hand totem for added dps through auto attacks. Add in a dps offhand like an axe or golden blade plus a haste lix or just a combo and you'll notice the extra damage. I mean your in melee range with this build anyways. Might as well add auto damage.
Roots build
Roots high enough to work on mobs 10 levels higher. Max vines, swarm, and rest in touch. Once you get higher levels add points to strike when you get the extra for added dps. Stats 3:2 focus/vit is a general build for that. But you wanna make sure you have enough health for when your mob evades that root... And trust me... It's gonna happen... It's gonna happen a lot... But it is a reliable build for druids. Especially if you get your hands on one of those Hrungir roots skulls. The reduction in casting time can keep a mob rooted indefinitely as long as there's no evades.
So play around with those if your interested in leveling a druid while still having the option to solo. As long as you still have a high heal you'll do just fine in groups with the benefit that your chosen build can add to the group. Winds to lessen damage, roots to keep mobs at bay, or sheer dps with heals. With those though you'll also have the option to solo. But to answer your question once again, yes roots is a viable build all the way to endgame.

Re: Leveling a druid
#9Mirage i see roots used more as an endgame boss skill than for leveling as it can be quite tedious to try and keep yourself alive when your roots misses. My best soloing was with a hw build and when i had radiant earthstone gear i could kill mobs quite fast. Id recommend vines, strike, bees which can cast at a distance so if you decide to level in groups and level with a ranger you can still cast at long range while bolas is on mob. Lastly you need touch and decide between either hw or bark. If you go with hw make sure you have a decent amount of dex or defense. But if you go with bark as i have decided you dont really need a lot of dex but a little still helps to evade so you can heal. Hope this helps.
