Golden trident of magic

#1
I'm a level 80 mage and just bought the golden trident of magic. The difference with this one and the trident of ice and the trident of fire is that the golden trident of magic has 100 magic damage, tri of ice has 100 cold damage , and tri of fire has 100 heat damage. Does cold and heat damage mean that it helps the fire and ice shards skills for the mages? And if so, what does magic damage improve? Everything?

Nope. I was confused about this early on as well. They are three different kinds of elemental damage. Druids deal magic damage and so does your wand (aka toothpick). They will not help your skills, but you can improve the amount of damage from each elemental by casting the appropriate lure--fire lure for fire trident, etc. So to get your best effect, you should have a decent magic lure for your trident. Since you probably use fire and ice lures already (and probably don't use magic lure), a fire or ice trident would have been a better bet.

To improve your fire damage, you need 1) items that add to your fire ability or 2) items that add to your focus (indirect benefit to all spells). In terms of lux to buy

1) Diamond wand is great-- +200 fire and ice. Also, lots of dropped rings that add--grand ring of flame is +100 (I think?) to fire, for example. Aggy braces also add, but you may not be able to get those yet.

2) Master's grimoire adds 75 focus (again, I think). Diamond armor adds focus, as does the event armor (spirit, dark, dusk). Many drops or quest items also add focus--wyrm braces, frozen armor, twisted wand, etc.

Does that help?

The wand is available in the shop at the tower at the second leystone in Other World. The merchant must be "unlocked" by doing his Other World Diamonds quest. It's not too difficult.
