Should a level 186 Ranger with 5k hp be able to out dps a level 181 Mage with full focus even with a pierce lure? Assuming they both have some of the best gear possible.
Also, should a level 186 Ranger with 5k hp be able to out dps a level 195 Mage with 4.5k hp even with a pierce lure? Again, they both have some of the best gear possible and full dl along with the weapon.
I'm not making any conclusions or anything but I would like to hear other thoughts and opinions. It seems there may have been a sneaky fix to defence because I'm barely getting the kill on anything these days even as a full focus icemage. I'm still leveling so I guess we'll see if that has anything to do with it.
Re: Dps Query
#2Things seem pretty fair to me, Lord. Haven't been out dps'ed by a ranger yet but rogues have gotten a kill over me a couple times. I think any class with proper DPS spec should be able to contend for a kill. All the complaining rogues made due to defense were understandable but I also think this must have been hotfixed because I'm seeing them hit much more often now.

Re: Dps Query
#3I do not have any problems with a Rogue outdpsing me especially if there's a lure up. It just seems a big weird having a Ranger out dpsing me without a haste especially when I am at full focus and maxed dps skills. Have any of the rangers on your world gotten a dl bow yet? I think it may be the new variable...
Re: Dps Query
#4Well, with the pierce lure, isn't that helping the ranger's dps significantly? Plus, the ranger's attack frequency is going to necessarily be higher than our slow skills and wand over the length of a decent fight. Without the pierce lure but with elemental lures, I see the mage easily winning, but the pierce lure is going to help the ranger out dps and I think that would make sense in the absence of mage skill lures.I do not have any problems with a Rogue outdpsing me especially if there's a lure up. Re: Dps Query
#5Err, I was using a lure of ice as well. I thought that was inferred, sorry. I know Mages have slow skills but that means we may not get the kill on kills that are just short enough to get in one nuke and melee gets all the rest in the time skills are loading. I guess the pierce lure does make a difference but then I thought Ranger dps was sucky. I'm just a tad confused about who is supposed get the kill (which is supposedly the person who does the most damage) with these different conditions.Well, with the pierce lure, isn't that helping the ranger's dps significantly? Re: Dps Query
#6I guess it depends really.
As mentioned, assuming defence has been fixed, both classes have equal lures and equal end game gear with the underlining question on the classes build and skills, you have:
1) Ice mage build
Powerhouse nuke class dealing considerable to huge nukes of 6k to 9k. This is followed by 1k-2k firebolts or a lesser dmg with frost bite
2) Fire mage build
Constant spam of firebolts dealing 3k-4k depending with support from Firestorm and incinerate.
Vs
Rangers who are known more for their auto attacks (Rapid shot, sharpen weapon etc) with medium support from damage skills (Long shot, sharp shoot etc)
Ice mage build may lose out due to
A) Big nukes but slow cooldown resulting in rangers auto attacks to catch up eventually.
B) Evasions are more damaging to mages compared to rangers missing in the long run? (Missing a 8k ice blast is equal to X misses etc)
Fire mages I cant comment much due to not enough testing.
I do feel that, its not worth comparing as the ranger got the lure buff which is help from another class. So essentially, you got beaten by a ranger + support mage. Not exactly you got beaten by a ranger purely.
