im thinking about starting my mage up and im going with a fire build but im thinking about adding one of these as an "extra" skill in place of incinerate
which one should does more damage/has a faster cooldown?

Use shards. It has a much faster cooldown.

Incinerate will yield more DPS than simply adding in Ice Shards into your build. I'd reconsider that personally.

well what he means is you will most likely end up having a fire lure in ur build so since incin will benefit from that it will be better choice for u
incinerate is a damage over time skill it applies for 20 secs i think and deals X damage per tic depending on how upgraded it is and your fire magic ability and focus

use incin as a starter then cast lure as the first dot damage wont hit by then; then cast firestorm and if needed still bolt

Depends on whether your going for a good solo lvling build or want pure dps. For lvling definately go with shards.

Best rotation would be incinerate > lure > firebolt > firestorm.
