High level, experienced mages...who also happen to be bored with usual fare...

Suppose you didn't care much about DPS -- everyone's doing that, and you want to be different.
Suppose you didn't care much about luring -- it brings no fame or glory.

Then what's left is BEAST mage, the Rocky Balboa of the magi, able to take inhuman amounts of punishment and keep on swinging until, by dint of sheer exhaustion, you overtake your foes.

I've never seen a serious effort to construct a good BEAST mage. So how would we do it?

This much seems clear: you want MAX eshield, and you want a considerable number of points in dex, and you want to max out hand-to-hand ability.

Maybe MAX fire cloak, max bandage wounds (to cast while shield up).

But what else? Which shield? What other skills?

I hate cloak. Stay away. Use Fire Attune, Bolt, eshield, storm, and I use assassins lure. I find that rogues and rangers will lvl w me if I keep it high. Great xp. GL

Oh and use Fire Lure ofc.

Take this with a grain of sand but I have a mage that I molded after the h2h builds. It's pretty low level-like 110. But it's fun to take a break off my druid and ranger on occassion.

I have maxed with gear -
fire cloak, fire lure, fire bolt, and ice shards
A lot of points in eshield and ice attunement.

In addition, I use empty main hand, 235 dmg fire brand off hand, and haste gloves.

With the exception of eshield, none of those eat up much energy. Keep in mind this is a horrible bossing build.

I do have some other lux like the sunshard ammy and whatnot that helps boost up stats quite a bit and regen.

Again, this is just a fun build for a solo type lvling toon. Fairly quick kills and when shards or bolt misses, the fire cloak is doing quite a bit of dmg as well as the high dmg offhand with haste gloves.

I'll prob have a ton of mage players tell me I'm insane and it's a terrible mage build.

^H2h mage is so much fun, I would totally make one if I had good melee gear, also now caster mages are much more powerful than in u3 so they're also really fun.

H2H mage can do a lot of dmg, Im not sure if theres a possibility to make a really good one for bossing.

Yea I agree!

Lixing and lvling my 181 druid and 180 ranger gets really daunting so it's fun to have a lower lvl toon to play with.

I happen to have that high dmg brand, fire damage armor, the ammy, gloves, and dmg helm sitting in my bank plus a bunch of mage bracers and rings from aggy and event sitting in clan bank collecting dust for quite awhile now no one wanted.

So after reading some of the h2h build threads it seemed like a really fun toon to play since I already had the gear.

Its fun breaking the normal ways, and a melee mage is a really good way. Back at u3 when trident was the strongest wep, I thought about making trident mage (its no class), it has stat bonus and multiples with str, while attack would have to come from gear. Would be really fun doing that.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought about using a trident since I'm using the sunshard ammy. And the high level fire lure makes the 235 fire brand hit pretty hard. I might try a trident for the extra attack and see if I like it.

^U need good attack gear for that tho, and most likely use some heroic attack elixirs (+ haste) for lvling, but I think it can be fun. A druid did that for lvling.
