I am a fire Mage who uses shield regularly, so does that put me in the solo category?

Again still kind of depends. Could you say your stats, all your skills, and your access to restos, and that might help.

I split my points evenly between focus and vit, mainly use fire bolt, storm, eshield, fire attune, and lure of fire. I don't use restos but I have 1k sigs, so provided that I don't get swarmed or I could beat the mobs, my down time is fairly short.

Sounds like you could solo just fine with that build. I would say solo mostly unless you get a leveling partner who greatly speeds up kills.

I've been soloing my fire Mage, it's pretty easy, fire so op.
Can get 3-4 bars a lix at 150

why not pick up pierce lure and level with ranger

Or you could wait till I'm 161 so we can lvl me Gordy or me and another Mage make a deadly duo... I'll be on in an hr or so. :3 158 atm

I like group lvling, especially if u have large area to train at. I have lots of ice shards gear so when an ice mage is with me I have 3 hard hitting skills.

Groups also provide some bonus xp for every member, so the xp is divided by the number of people in your group, but that xp is boosted again by a set percentage.

But if you can kill mobs fast like you say then solo leveling is fine. But for mages who do not have good gear at their disposal, for them group leveling could be great. Also when you hit tower group leveling is better then solo leveling in my opinion.

I've found group lvling to be more fun, and solo lvling is a drag. It's because I like to compete with my group to see who gets highest dps, it's fun, and it gets faster kills.

To elaborate further off of this post, I highly recommend group training, but only with other experienced players(because theyre more likely to know good builds and/or have better gear which makes killings faster.) Also like stated above, it's very fun to compete for kills (even though you can cheat by not using lure for the other players if not mages ) and you have someone to talk to. I can level for hours in a group, but can only last a couple lixs soloing. Ive trained in groups the whole time playing on this character and have gotten this far in about 3- 3.5 months work
