I have a 31/40 shield (with royal ring and dragonlord skirt) and it is helluva useful. Especially when you use a really high attunement (mine adds almost 1.3k damage to bolt and storm), you can't afford to die during levelling or boss fights. Energy shield lets me live that extra bit longer to where someone can either heal me, or take the aggro of what's killing me away.

If you were wondering, I have 3.6k health, so no my vit isn't low.

I'm 188 mage at 40/40 and it gets knocked off pretty fast depending on the mob. I have tested trying without e shield and lets just say I was shouting for a book after to put e shield back lol.

Bro just make a ranger, i am rich as *** from soloing on my ranger and carrying on the 1.75m of lux from my mage to my ranger so i never run out of energy, light heal is 423 atm at 104

maybe you guys didnt understand what im saying
you would need an alt and rebirth to test it out actually

you look at the energy cost of your energy shield (lets say 900 for a higher level)
then you rebirth and put in enough points in focus to make your energy max 900 pts less than normal
put the extra points into vit

then alt without energy shield and put the points into some other more useful skill
because as far as im concerned ive realized that energy shield just turns energy into hp

so why just not put as much energy and just fix it as hp in your stats?

Because unless you like spamming restos you will not be able to solo at any sort of decent speed. Health even in large amounts is much less effective on a mage than any other class.
Also your useful attacks may already be maxed or may cost too much energy to upgrade more.
Just try soloing with shield and without shield but more health and you will see a huge difference very fast.

Also it doesn't change energy to health at a 1/1 ratio.
A shield that costed me 700 energy gave me over 1200 health.

Im a lvl 186 and I don't use e-shield atm im running 500 vit which equals to a little over 4.4k hp the rest is in focus. I use mostly ice shards 50/40, blast 50/40, attune 45/40 fire bolt 45/40, and e-boost. I haven't notice any decrease in damage still hitting 6-7k on wyrms.

No not usually and I'm using a lot less restores now.

oh ok good cuz i dont plan on spamming restos for the sake of saving some skill points lol
the only thing im supposed to use restos for is maybe soloing some lower level bosses (shimmerspell/crumblehorn/fellfire)
